Nefarious is the story about a villain. Crow is a mad genius and world famous princess kidnapper. With his empire in shambles, our rogue protagonist has turned to being a villain-for-hire and abducts royalty for any big name bad guy who can afford his exorbitant fees.
Nefarious volume 1 seeks to follow his adventures as he thwarts heroes, blows up town hall, and tries to rebuild his once mighty empire into a world conquering force.
Nefarious Volume 1 continues the story where the game's true ending leaves off. This was the most easy point for new readers to join in.
Our objective is to fund the creation of a 150+ page book. Four unique chapters of full color illustrations and villainous hijinks. At its core, Nefarious is a comedy with a heart. It deconstructs and inverts tired tropes and seeks to breathe new life into the villain-hero-princess dynamic in fun and interesting ways.
Tell me more about Nefarious
Nefarious started out as a game that put you in the role of the villain. Kickstarted back in 2014 and released in January 2017, it was an action platformer where your job was to kidnap princesses. Each princess had a different effect on player mechanics, and each stage ended with you becoming that worlds' boss fight as you battled a tiny hero.
What people didn't expect was that Nefarious had an intricate story that explored the role of villains, perspective and authority. Each princess you kidnapped had her own personality and agenda.
The graphic novel does not rely on you having beaten or even played the game. Characters will be reintroduced organically, so all you need to know about Nefarious to enjoy it is that it's about the adventures of the villain!
A refresher for some, an introduction for others. We'll be meeting lots of new characters in the world of Nefarious, but here are a few fan favorites:
Crow serves as the villain protagonist of our story. Coming from a long line of villains, he loves mayhem, fighting and blowing obstacles up. Despite his chaotic tendencies, he is instilled with a powerful desire to fix things that are broken. Unfortunately for the world, the system is broken! Crow claims to be able to solve the worlds problems, if only all the kingdoms would unite under him and build a few giant golden statues in his honor.
Becky is Crow's majordomo. She is a relentless bureaucrat who handles the paperwork and logistics of running Crow's empire. She employs the power of logic and delegation to keep the gears oiled. Becky is loyal to one thing— the path to power and control.
Despite being far more ruthless and cruel than Crow, she lacks his charisma and combat prowess. The two find themselves in a symbiotic working relationship with each other.
Princess Mayapple rules the human kingdom from Macro City. She is a kind and patient ruler who sees the good in anyone, no matter how many times that outlook lets her down. Though well-meaning, Mayapple has proven to go to questionable lengths in order to achieve the greater good for her kingdom.
Crow and Mayapple have a long history together, as Crow is the designated villain of her kingdom. He's been kidnapping her for six years running! Despite this, Mayapple never neglects to invite him out for go-karting and board game night.
Princess Foxglove rules the kingdom of Kyuutopia. A small tropical island nation that often serves as a vacation destination for all the nations of the world. The Kyuutopians (or Kyuuties) are a race renowned for their cuteness and aversion to being blown up by grenades.
Despite its flowery appearance, her nation is teetering on the edge of financial ruin. Fox is suffering from a severely low approval rating, and the salty princess is not taking it well.
Princess Ariella is the warrior princess of dwarves. Her icy nation of Winterdown is currently under an uneasy truce with the fiery ogre kingdom. The two warring factions recently ended a 100 year war with each other. But Ariella isn't the most diplomatic of dwarves and peace is a fragile thing.
According to tabloid headlines, Ariella and the ogre kingdom leader, Prince Malachite, frequently meet in secret.
Prince Malachite, playboy, lord of flame and ruler of the ogre kingdom is the newest member of the world leader scene. His lofty position comes at the cost of deposing his tyrannical sister Princess Tephra from the throne.
Though he rules the ogres with a much more gentle hand, his public image suffers from his open admiration for Ariella, his nation's former enemy. Malachite is a firm believer in the power of love.
Princess Farrah Day was an experiment gone mostly right. Though the happy-go-lucky ball of pure energy given human-ish form has a hidden dark side. She was designed to be the perfect princess, a lab-grown construct to exhibit all the proper qualities of a noble leader.
However her own creators were less than perfect and passed on their imperfections to her. When left to her own devices, she prefers to play pranks, and explore the world.

Risks and challenges
As many of you know, Nefarious Volume 1 will be my second Kickstarter. My first kickstarter Nefarious the game was funded for 50k and successfully delivered to good reviews and favorable impression. I have a history of delivering that I hope you will continue to trust.
Any project comes with risk, there is some new territory I will be traversing, Namely large scale book printing. However I am confident we will break through any challenges that may arise, just as we have before.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
