About this project
The Voices of Virtue are:
Lady Prudence Piper, Court Composer to the Queen (Cathryn Lyons) vocals, harp, whistle, ukulele
Lilly Bragg (formerly Esperanza de la Noche), Village Protest Singer (Rykie Belles) vocals, guitar, kazoo, general complaining
We're an unlikely pair, it's true, and yet when we get together, something pretty magical happens. Over the past six years we've performed at renaissance festivals, private events, and schools across the Southeast, delighting audiences as well as ourselves. We've made strong men cry, worldly women blush, grumpy children laugh, and unhappy babies fall into a gentle nap. Yet somehow, despite repeated requests, we've never got around to recording an album. That changes today!
Since we're feeling ambitious, we're recording TWO albums:
- Voices of Virtue: songs of morality like "The Lusty Young Smith," "The Month of Maying," and "The Scotsman"
- Presents!: featuring all our Christmas favorites
We are primarily a vocal duo, with some instrumentation. Expect tight harmonies as soaring soprano and sweet mezzo entwine, and look for special guest vocalists as well!
What We're Paying For:
- Recording, mixing, & editing for both albums by the amazing Dolph Amick!
- Album photography by the spectacular Raven Shutley of You Are Raven!
- Graphic design by the phenomenal VC Brannen!
- Printing CDs
- Reward costs, Kickstarter fees, shipping, etc.
Recording lets us expand our reach and increases our income, which lets us focus on making music rather than scrambling to make ends meet, and THAT lets us create more and better music, which leads to more reach, which leads to more music...this is a huge step for us!
How We're Feeling:
Risks and challenges
By far the biggest challenge is location and timing! Lady Prudence is currently in Dallas, TX, and Lilly is holding down the fort back in Atlanta. We will have about four weeks in the same city to nail down arrangements, rehearse, record and mix 30 songs, plus get all the rewards set up. We've been busily doing all our separate work, and hearkening back to our teenage years by talking on the phone to hash out details when texting just isn't fast enough.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
