Art Camp for Children
Do you recognize how valuable art education is for children? I hope that because you are on this creative website that you do. Unfortunately, in California public schools, children spend their time memorizing required material for tests. The arts have been cut from the curriculum. Technology and television also stifle creativity at home, after school, and on weekends. Creativity is not encouraged. Many parents do not recognize the proven value of art to the mind and soul. Those parents that do value the arts would like their children to have creative opportunities but in today's economically challenged times they cannot afford private lessons or those at an art gallery.
I have a Master's degree in art education and have taught art to pre-school through high school age children through special programs for over 15 years. I also am blessed to have a home with a bonus room that has space for teaching art, so about five years ago I came up with the idea to provide art day camp opportunities to children in my community. Check out what we have done at http://artandmorecamp.com.
But each year, as the economy has worsened, I have lowered my prices so that parents can afford to enroll their children. I have paid camp counselors and summer swimming life guards at my own expense when it has cost more than the enrollment fees have covered. Often, I have invited for free those children that I knew could not come otherwise. To reduce the cost to parents, I have shortened the length of the day camp, provided options for children to come to do only art and not the other games and activities we can offer, and tried to come up with other ideas to make the program affordable.
I would love to be able to continue to provide creative art opportunities for children, build our program back up, and even improve it and serve more children. But I cannot do it alone. My children are now of an age that I have college to help with and weddings to pay for. I would love to be able to continue teaching art but I also need to make a living. I hope I won't have to give up teaching art for the more stable income of a substitute teacher!
I need help to fund art camp opportunities for children.
Your charitable donations can help provide creative art experiences for up to 15 children a day. Your funds will be used for art materials, to pay for camp counselors to help teach the children, and for the children's enrollment.
The initial funds are to be used for art camp days during this winter school break. Our local students, for the first time, get three weeks off this year. What will they do with their time? You can help them have a valuable, educational and fun experience at art camp. All extra funds will be used for more days of art camp on school holidays and during the summer, to lengthen the hours of our day camp and/or add after-school hours, to add music, drama and movement to our visual arts program, to improve our facility, to create a children's art gallery space, to advertise, to reach out to underprivileged and talented children, to update my art skills with current techniques that will enthuse children, and anything else we can do to provide opportunities for children to become excited and involved with being creative in the arts.
I really appreciate your interest, hope you can spread the word, and hope that you will feel great to help provide some quality art to help children on the path of a love and enthusiasm for lifelong learning!
