8 Years. Nearly 400 comics. One book! This is the collection fans have been asking after for years! Johnny Wander: Our Cats Are More Famous Than Us collects the archive of Johnny Wander in both a regular hardcover and a Slipcased Andrew Lang style edition limited to 500 copies.
Johnny Wander began in 2008, just as we were graduating college. The autobio comics began by covering our transition from student life into adulthood.
While we occasionally tackled fiction (collected in our previously kickstarted CUTTINGS book), people first got to know us and our comics through the autobio strips. Over the course of the comic some of the most popular characters turned out to be our cats, Rook and Cricket.
Once we started focusing more heavily on fiction, (including our currently ongoing BARBAROUS series and the award-winning– and also kickstarted– Lucky Penny), we organically eased off of autobio. Johnny Wander: Our Cats Are More Famous Than Us is a collection that combines the first 3 volumes we previously self-published (and... also... kickstarted... we do this a lot) with additional unpublished comics (almost a book’s worth), and never-before-seen extras into one big complete collection. This book is also going to be printed with a splash of color:
We want to make sure we send our autobio comics out with a bang, so we’re doing an over-the-top hardcover, a slipcased limited edition, and even making a supremely huggable plush of a MAW, our signature weird bird demon thing.
Above were the first pass of the prototype and our notes below. We’re currently awaiting the revised version and will share it with the campaign as soon as we get it!
While we’re planning on working with Oni Press for a retail release, like we did with Lucky Penny, our ability to make comics and post them to Johnny Wander has always been because of the incredible direct support of our fans. Like Lucky Penny, we are running this campaign to fund printing books that we can sell directly to our wonderful readers.
Our video was done by the amazing Lindsay & Alex Small-Butera of Baman Piderman note!
Risks and challenges
We have done a lot of campaigns now, we're working with Breadpig to help keep track of costs and manage fulfillment, and we've got a fulfillment center already picked out! Books are ready to go to the printer as soon as the campaign has wrapped.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
