Paran employs a large range of abilities and strategies to help him overpower the enemies he discovers. He can approach his nemeses hidden and launch a surprise attack, or he can throw himself into battle head-on. The choice is up to the player. Paran also needs to alternate between using his sword and pistol to best defeat each enemy.
With the spirit of a tried-and-true scavenger, there is no cliff, palace, grotto or oasis that Paran can’t reach. In fact, the player will be able to explore the world of Numia in 360 degrees; whether a cavern deep within the oceanic abyss, or the bell tower scraping the sky over Endenheim city, the skillful player can reach every place, and perhaps find some precious treasure if they’re lucky.
In exploring the world of Numia, and defeating the enemies he finds there, Paran earns Gears and collects ammunition, potions, and experience points. To collect these XPs, he must use the special capabilities of the sword. Like in many classic RPGs, experience points are needed to level up and improve Paran’s stats. By discovering secret places and defeating the most formidable enemies, Paran will earn rare treasures to keep in his collection.
Paran’s adventure begins with his discovery of the sword called Durindana. The legendary sword will serve him in more than just combat against enemies, in fact it will be the very key he needs to unlock the world of MidKnight Story and to reach new levels within it. The sword will be upgradeable to unlock new abilities, with features such as the propeller that allows Paran to glide from place to place and reach areas previously unexplorable.
In the years following The Scourge, humans have lived confined to the few villages that remain. Only a certain few, like Paran, dare to venture beyond town borders where the fiercesome Remnants endlessly patrol the forgotten lands. Mysteriously, after Paran discovers Durindana, the activity of the Remnants starts to increase, as they seem to grow restless…

MidKnight Story is a passion project being developed solely by myself, Mattia Ciurlino, independent Italian developer. The development of the game began three years ago, when I began creating the foundations that would become MidKnight Story- the 3D models, the gameplay bases, the character animations, and so on. Additionally, everything that I learned and implemented into the game, I taught myself. Over the course of these three years, I have created a substantial community built around the game, which, thanks to its precious feedback, has helped MidKnight Story to grow every day in the right direction. Fellow Italian D-Omen has also been integral to the development of the game's scenography, story, and lore.

A few talented individuals have lent their help to the sound engineering of MidKnight Story. In addition to having produced parts of the official soundtrack of the game, Mothership Loudspeakerz works on creating the sound effects. Tilo Alpermann is the artist that worked on the cinematography and sound for both game trailers. He is currently working on the main theme of the game as well. Tom Ferguson is currently composing the character themes and some background tracks. Harry Critchley has worked on two ambient soundtracks so far.

The MidKnight Story community was formed two and a half years ago when I shared the early stages of development publicly for the first time. The Kickstarter platform will help me connect with a wider community, receive even more feedback, and help grow MidKnight Story's support base.
Thanks to Kickstarter, not only will I have the opportunity to sustain myself economically for the duration of the game development, but I will be able to hire even more talented artists to help bring the world alive in the absolute best way possible. Further, if the stretch goals are met, MidKnight Story will contain added gameplay features and many other exciting aspects.
Risks and challenges
I feel confident in my ability to bring the MidKnight Story universe to full completion, especially considering that the gameplay mechanics, in addition to the story and lore, have already been developed and implemented.
