So I'm an Environmental Science student with absolutely no skills in Art, modern or otherwise.
A few nights ago, I was talking with someone close to me about modern art. I got angry at this, because it dawned on me that modern art is everything I hate about art. Art is a harmonic balance between objective and subjective elements present in front of you. Modern Art however, treats this like a kid making their own snow cone, with about 1% what's there in front of you, and 99% symbolism. It doesn't matter what the symbolism, it doesn't even had to be the symbolism the artist intended to be, it just has to exist for them to get an symbolic hard-on and say "That's art for ya" before doing a mic-drop and moonwalking to the nearest vegan cafe.
The conversation went like this:
Me: Modern art is stupid. There's no talent. It's just seeing something where nothing exists because you choose to. If I got a bed frame, painted it blue, and assembled in the centre of a gallery, would you consider that art?
Them: Yeah but you wouldn't do it.
Me: Nope, I can and I will.
Them: You won't do it.
Me: Would you be proud of me if I did?
Them: ... You won't do it.
Me: Nah, I'll crowdfund. Make the most cliche Modern Art exhibition that ever there was. People would travel far and wide to see exactly what they expect from a modern art exhibition.
Them: ... You won't do it.
So there we have it. I'm here. Crowdfunding to do this. It's modern art so there'll be exactly what you think when you think of "Modern Art". Probably some blank canvases, a few lights with some weird colours and positions, maybe a few ordinary garden tools propped up against the wall even. Heck, why not just drop my car keys in the corner with an interesting description next to it. Seeing as it's modern art, I may as well hand stuff from the ceiling too. Don't know what yet, but it's modern art so I'm sure I'll think of something eventually.
