About this project
Bucket is a feature length documentary that captures the life of many, of the hundreds of bucket boys on Chicago's south-side. Putting to use their percussive bucket drumming skills as they fight for survival in society. As we follow these young talented teens we learn, that they offer more than just their Entertaining drummer skills that they display to the public. We discover that growing up in poverty, these teens are faced with numerous obstacles in their community as well as in their homes.
Following these young talented teens on their journey, we witness that "the bucket" is more than just a tool. Not only has the bucket become their main source of income, but the bucket has become their lifestyle.
The Chicago Bucket Boys beginnings were the mid 1990's. A group of boys from the South Side of Chicago took the skill they honed with 5 gallon buckets and drumsticks to the streets of Downtown Chicago. Settling in amongst the population of other Street Performers and immediately rose to the most visible and memorable Chicago has ever seen! There are Bucket Boys that number in the hundreds around the city,
and sadly, most of them live in poverty. 'Beating' as it is termed by them, supports the needs of the performers, and in many cases, their families. The talent possessed by these strong young men is a testament to the freedom found in creativity.
Initially we thought this documentary was going to be a short film, but once we began shooting, we quickly realized the story was too big to be squeezed into a short. This is why we need your support!
Not only do we need to shoot more, we have yet to be able to shoot an important aspect of this story, and that is the Equipment Rental. The cost of renting more Equipment has been out of our budget. We need to rent Sound Equipment, because we aren't allowed to just show up and shoot. Besides permission, we need a certain amount of control over the environment, we can't ask unsuspecting passengers to move their seat or be quiet at our request. Your support will give us the opportunity to capture Bucket Boys personal experience of the time spent on the Shooting.
The other aspects of our production your funding would aid are: insurance,Permits, equipment rental, travel, and post production.festivals submission
After paying the fees to Kickstarter, Amazon and compensating rewards, the funds raised on Kickstarter will pay for Equipment Rental, and Sound Rental For the production of "Bucket."
Post-production involves many steps: from transcoding and organizing footage, to editing, animating, coloring, composing, finalizing, festival submissions, and distribution. Due to the creative needs of each process we will be putting our best effort into finishing it as impactfully and efficiently as possible.
