Inanimate Insanity is an award-winning, online animated series that is a surreal take on reality television series in the vein of Survivor in which contestants compete in challenges to win one million dollars. You know the deal with these shows: there's the bad guys, the good guys, and the floaters, and each of these types usually stick out like a sore thumb. But for the purposes of this series, every contestant has literally been objectified. Their personalities shine through what object they are, some more direct than others.
Five years ago, as of April 1st, 2016, the show began as a straight comedy with some light satire, but with its second season, it's morphed into something we're trying to make more experimental and meaningful as we aim to explore the characters and their situation further. How exactly did this life-threatening competition form in the first place? What were the contestants’ lives like before they joined the game? Is there anyone in their world who actually objects to the cruel nature of the show? And is it possible that they’re right? After all, what effect has the competition had on everyone who enters it? These are just some of the questions we would like to answer.
Our series has accumulated over 37 million views and over 68,000 subscribers. It’s been showcased at film festivals nationwide, and has recruited notable voice talent from both YouTube and television. But what’s really important to us is our plan for the remaining episodes in the series. We have a ton of world-building, character development, twists, reveals, and resolutions that we’ve planned for years that we can only present properly with your help.
Our fans may have noticed, or even commented, like, a lot, about how episodes have been coming out at a very slow rate. We used to get them out once a month, but with the combined factors of a college workload, an increase in episode quality and runtime over the years, the painstaking nature of animation, and- did we mention college...? Yeah, it’s been rough on our schedule. We don’t want to sacrifice the quality of the series, in fact, we want it to be better than it ever has before and end on a high note!
This may seem confusing to many long-time viewers as we have been doing the show for free for so many years. However, college is not only time consuming but also largely expensive, and in order make this a life priority we've decided to create this campaign.
In order to achieve the level of quality we’re looking for to faithfully deliver the rest of the story, we’re looking to be able to pay new animators, background artists and music composers. Not only will the show be able to continue, but you’ll notice a stark improvement thanks to this new talent!
$5 - Fan thank you + backer updates + 5-hour early access. You care about us! You receive our gratitude, and a message confirming it that you can cherish forever! And of course, given your donation, we’ll be keeping you posted about how the campaign and show are coming along! But perhaps best of all, for every new episode of Inanimate Insanity from here on out, you’ll get to see the action unfold five glorious hours before everyone else!
$10 - above rewards + avatars or HQ backgrounds + access to 3 exclusive Livestreams Q+A with crew. You want to customize your online accounts and/or devices with super high-quality images of sets and characters from II? Well now you can have them, ripped straight from their original sources. Plus why not join us for three exclusive livestreams on Google Hangouts that won’t even air on YouTube?
$25 - above + DRM Free digital download (essentially a rights free download) + exclusive crew commentaries on all 18 Season 1 Episodes. Not only do you get copies of the episodes free of any sharing restrictions, but never-before-heard commentaries from the crew on our entire first season. Listen to us cringe over how embarrassed we are by our old work as we relive our humble origins...
$50 - above + commentaries of all current season 2 episodes + personalized audio recording from voice actor of choice* (Limit is 2 minutes) Ah, now you’ll hear crew commentaries for all of Season 2 that has been created so far, meaning we’ll hopefully be a lot less harsh on ourselves! Plus, how would you like to have any voice actor on the show record whatever you want for two full minutes? Want to hear Test Tube explain why rainbows exist? Or listen in on Tissues discussing his health issues? So many possibilities!
$75 - above + Miniprint (physical reward) and all future season 2 commentaries. Ooh, something tangible! Not only do you get a miniprint you can lay your hands on, but how about we also promise to give you all the commentaries for the rest of season 2? It’s an investment in the FUTUUUURE!
$100 - above + signed miniprint by Adam Katz. The creator of the series himself will christen that miniprint we mentioned earlier with his signature. That’s right, he puts his name on it, in his handwriting! Can you imagine? I doubt it.
$200 - above + Signed sketch by Adam Katz of any character you’d like OR signed screenplay of Inanimate Insanity II - Episode 10. You have a choice! Would you like Sir Master Creator Adam Katz to draw any character from the II cast AND sign it for you, or send you a screenplay of Inanimate Insanity II - Episode 10 AND sign THAT for you? Either way, you’re getting his signature on something pretty cool. It’s a win-win I’d say!
$300 - above + cameo voice actor minor (15) Your voice could be immortalized in the world of Inanimate Insanity by virtue of a cameo! Immortalization means it’ll be there forever. What a legacy you could leave!
$750 - above (minus voice acting minor) + cameo voice actor major (1) Oh I see. You don’t simply want a bit part, but a more significant appearance! Very well, it can be yours.
$1500 - above (does not include voice role) + Executive producer credit (3). Dude, you are, like, the best. You’ve supported the show to such a degree that you’ve truly earned an executive producer credit. Y’know, that’s the same role Steven Spielberg had on Back to the Future. You’re basically him in our eyes, so it’s safe to say you have our profound gratitude!
$15,000 - Well with that kind of money, the show’s going to get a visual makeover! Expect to see not only a larger variety of backgrounds, but a much higher attention to detail. Gone are the days of boring default grass! Say hello to mountaintops, waterfalls, and other hypothetically pretty things to improve the quality of the series! As that kid in Super 8 who somewhat but not really looks like Adam so eloquently put it, “PRODUCTION VALUE!”
$20,500 - We can tell even more of the story! Now all your favorite characters get a longer stay in the spotlight, allowing us to develop them even further and explore both the dramatic and comedic possibilities of the upcoming plot-lines all the more! What am I saying? I’m saying we will round out the second season with seventeen episodes in total!
$26,000 - You seriously have given us this much? You guys are the BEST, and if we hit this stretch goal, we’d love to make an extended finale for you. Let’s relish every moment of closing the book of this story we’ve felt so honored to share with you all. Trust us when we say that we have more than enough material planned to present a longer and more fleshed-out finish.
Risks and challenges
We want to increase both production quality and amount of crew members. Honestly it is hard to tell if these will somewhat balance each other out or if one will outweigh the other, but we are confident that production will speed up significantly, and after all, without this campaign the show would not be possible to continue at all.
Our number of animators have nearly doubled, but given our high ambitions for the remainder of the series, it’s hard to say for absolute certain a proper time estimate. We would expect around 3-4 months per episode, though this could all vary based on unpredictable events that come up in our personal lives and the relative complexity/simplicity of specific episodes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
