About this project
I have just published two books in the last three months and now I need to promote them by going out on book tours and book signings. I plan to speak at different organizations and parent groups about the need for music programs for children.
I would like to bring more awareness to my school, the RI Kids Create Music School so that I can build up the membership and buy a building. I offer piano lessons to children and adults and plan to hire more piano teachers along with music teachers in guitar and African drumming. My staff includes professional composers, music school graduates, and musicicans who were backups or opened for professional recording artists.
With this project, I am reaching out to parents who have given their children a music education and are successfully contributing to society.
I am very grateful for the local supporters who recently contributed to the event which I held to bring the Destiny Africa Children's Choir to Portsmouth, RI to hold a workshop in African drumming.. Our local chldren received quality instruction in African drumming and we were able to feed the choir with nutitional food needed for their demanding performance. The sponsors include Stop & Shop,Shaw's, Becky's Barbecue, and Common Fence Point Zumba in the Newport, RI area.
I have been teaching piano at after school programs in the Newport, RI area for the last ten years. During my last assignment at a local elementary school, I was able to attract so many students into the program that I consistently had a waiting list of children. This was the reason for starting the school.
Here is an example of my teaching of "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven.
I was fortunate enough to witness many children changing their behaviors and becoming more confident and responsible after several weeks of piano instruction while in the program. I elaborated on this in the book. After playing in a recital before their parents, children become more confident, tend not to accept mediocrity in themselves, become more tolerant of other ethnic groups, become better readers, and score higher on standardized tests. It is one of the learning styles which will be important for children in their future work with computers.
I have identified three events where I could promote my books in the near future. They include:
1. The RI Black Business Association 4th Annual Business Awards Dinner which will be held at the Omni Providence Hotel, Providence, RI on October 4, 2015. I will be able to doante my book in a silent action and receive recognition to over 10,000 people. I can purchase a full page ad for $600. The fee to attend is $80.00.
2. NAACP Providence Freedom Fund Dinner to be held on November 6, 2015. I can reserve a table and do book signings. Fee has not yet been announced.
3. Ocean State Buisness Expo to be held October 8, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel – Grand Ballroom & Grand Foyer 801 Greenwich Ave, Warwick, and Rhode Island 12:00 – 6:00pm. Opportunities include: Exhibitor space is $275.00. Speaking fee is $400.00, which includes exhibitor space and other promotional opportunities. These events would give me ample exposure to promote my books. I would spend the $700 balance in buying books, clothing, and in traveling to these events.
Selected supporters of this project will receive an RI Kids Create Music School camp t-shirt in appreciation for the generous support, and a signed copy of my book, Beyond My Imagination. Thanks in advance for your contribution. I will mention your support of this project on my blog and website.
Risks and challenges
Some of the obstacles I may face is in not having enough people to attend a book signing and there may be delays in securing books in advance of the scheduled date. I will make sure I have over booked to ensure I will have enough events scheduled to meet my needs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
