This Project is an effort to get more individually handmade pottery hummingbird feeders feeding hummingbirds where ever they hum.
I have made humming bird feeders for years and they have always been very popular, only last year did I bother to hang one myself. Just inches away from a sliding glass door. As I write this every few minutes a bird will come and take a sip of nectar, just a few minutes ago two of they were nearly fighting to get to the feeder. I may need to hang another.
Nectar is cheap and easy to make, no bird food is cheaper.
2/3 cup white granulated sugar dissolved in 2 cups of boiled water cooled and refrigerated for freshness. Fill your feeder full so that a vacuum is formed and the nectar will not drip out.
Hummingbirds eat bugs and lots of them. They have been known to steal bugs from the web of a spider only to return to get the spider too and use the web as part of its nest.
A hummingbird can eat anywhere from half (1/2) to eight (8) times its body weight a day.
A hummingbird feeder will bring you many hours of enjoyment watching your birds feed.
All pledges after costs will be used to buy clay, glaze, chain, bird stoppers, electricity and tools necessary for producing more feeders. Pledges also pay for kickstarter, amazon fees and postage required to fulfill rewards.
I make 2 types of feeders the blue Extruded one above and the tri-color Wheel thrown one below.
All feeders will be shipped upon completion of the kickstarter, at the beginning of October. If necessary I will continue to make the and ship until all pledges are fulfilled.
Thanks for your interest in this project, please feel free to spread the word.
Just rinse it before each filling, at the end of the season run it and the stopper through the dishwasher.
Boil 2 cups of water and add 2/3 of a cup of white granulated sugar, stir until dissolved. Store the nectar in the refrigerator in a clean container ( I use a 1 quart Gatorade bottle)
My Dad made a simple pulley system for my Mom, it hung outside a screened in porch.
Mine is 2 feet from a often used sliding glass door. It has a stretched out coat hanger attached to the chain so that I can hang it on a hook under the eave of the of the house.
