Tasche and the Psychedelic Roses
Tasche and the Psychedelic Roses is an eight-piece psych/doo-wop band that formed in New Orleans in 2016. Our current sound is a blend of psych, soul, doo-wop, garage, glam, dream, 70s punk, love ballad, grunge, and rock & roll. Tasche de la Rocha formed the group Psychedelic Roses while making her first record, "Gold Rose," after realizing she wanted to expand her sound.
Seven collaborators unite with Tasche to create a soundscape from a grunge prom in outer space: Three dream vocalists arrange haunting three-part harmonies, rhythm, lead, and baritone guitar reinforce the melody, drums and bass create a textural and energetic soundscape. Aside from the album we hope to create, our band is a specially crafted composition in and of itself: we couldn’t have the Psychedelic Roses without all eight parts.
But time is thin, as Psych Roses have been playing regularly in venues across New Orleans, we hope to record our album in order to continue playing shows and survive as a band. This record must be accomplished before we dissolve as big bands often do.
The New Orleans music community is important to us, and we have been playing shows in venues big and small. But we want to share our sound outside of the live show context. Our dream is to document what we have been dialing in for over three years now as a full band. (And hopefully venture outside of our New Orleans community soon.)
(The song in our Kickstarter video is Leave My Bones Out by Rebo Flordigan)
Many of you have asked how you can listen to our new material outside of our shows-- this Kickstarter is a response to that question! We are currently looking at recording studio options in New Orleans and have many exciting leads.
Tasche and the Psychedelic Roses have over ten new and stylistically varied songs which sadly we have not had the opportunity to record-- until now! Some you may have heard at our live shows over the years, and others are much newer.
With an eight-piece band, we will have to approach recording a little differently than Tasche has in the past. First, we want to record onto tape to create a warm sound. We also want the ability to layer all the pieces of each song to create strong and well-produced dynamics. Likely, we will record in a few different studios. Drums and bass will be recorded in a location with access to the right equipment and space to capture the depth and richness of those rhythms and sounds. Then we will layer the voices that the Angels (the four singers) have spent years on, with warm and clear microphones to allow the clarity of the vocals to come through. (We're planning on hiring a vocal coach to refine our wordy phrases, syllables, and diction.) After adding guitars, we can then spend time mixing in the studio of our friend and bandmate Joseph Faison. There we can give attention to the smallest of details, from reverb techniques to string arrangements. There are multiple producers we want to work with who are willing and excited to help us. We have many ideas we’d like to experiment with, but haven't been able to put them into action with our many members and few funds.
We are driven by a passion for experimentation and expansion, and also a love for this music. Everyone in Tasche and the Psychedelic Roses has given their time freely, because we all believe in this sound. We hope to, at a minimum, document the sound we have worked so hard on while it has life, and so we can take it to the next level.

Risks and challenges
Leading an eight-piece band is a huge challenge.
We have all dedicated a lot of time to this labor of love, and we feel we are more than ready to create a quality album as culmination of the past few years of work.
As many of you know, there is a lot that goes into recording a full-length album with a band of this size, from recording to production, visual art, promotion, and paying the musicians! Tasche would love to pay herself and the band for their time in the studio so they can make sure their basic needs are met while recording.
Since the band’s inception, Tasche has paid for everything out of pocket. She's been working as a full-time musician, from busking on the street, to playing weddings and parties, as well as working full-time at several service industry jobs, while playing shows and gigs, funneling everything into survival and show costs for the Psychedelic Roses. Ultimately, Tasche herself has already undertaken many risks to create and develop this project, paying for everything from costumes to posters in order to make her vision for the band a reality. Your support in helping her with this next challenge of recording would mean the world.
We understand that aiming for a higher goal is a risk in and of itself. But, more than anything, we want to create this album in the right way-- recorded beautifully, as we envision it, so we can continue to create! Having an album will help us to thrive a little more off of our music: it’ll help us connect with new listeners, generate income for the band, and link us to more booking opportunities. We want to practice, develop, and polish our music in the studio and deliver it into your hands. With your support our vision can be well within reach.
This project has involved a lot of help from our community over the years, and we have endless amounts of gratitude for everyone's support along the way. Thank you so much for coming to our shows and giving us encouragement on this journey. Please share our page with your friends and family to help get the word out! Everything helps! We love you!!
