Hi! My name is Karla, and I'm back for my fourth Kickstarter campaign with a new (and better!) version of my very first, and still most popular, playing card set. I am a Surface Designer, meaning I create patterns for companies to use on wallpaper, greeting cards and textiles. A few years ago I wanted to make something of my own to sell in my online shop and started hand-illustrating playing card decks. They've been so much fun to design.
Despite not asking for feedback about the design of my playing cards during my past campaigns, I got plenty! Sometimes it was hard to hear unsolicited criticism, but looking back, I'm glad I received those comments. I've adjusted a few design elements, and I think this new version of my Islet cards are the best they can be! If you disagree, I'll try not to take it personally :)
So what's new?
The numbers and suit icons on all the cards are smaller, more to the standard scale for playing cards. The numbers and letters are also thicker.
My name now on the side of the box instead of the back.
I've also added a Joker to this set. All my other sets have them, and even though they aren't used much in card games, I just really like having one in the group. I drew a new Jack, so I could use the sea gull as the Joker- the only possible choice I think!
The back of the box now shows two playing cards. I sell these wholesale to small shops on my website, and I thought shoppers in stores would like to see what the actual cards look like if there is not an open deck around.
The mix of patterns on the backs of the cards are all the same as the original Islet set, 2/3 banana leaf patterns and 1/3 geometric prints in hot pink, yellow and a red-coral. The greens have been made a little brighter and contrasting. They also still come to you shrink-wrapped, outside the box and the inside deck of cards as well. They are still standard poker/bridge size.
It's important to tell you too that these are really great quality playing cards. Backers always ask, so I want to make sure to let you know that these look and feel just like they should; sturdy, a little shiny, slick. They are your classic playing cards, and the box is just as it should be too. You won't be disappointed!
When you pledge, you'll be helping me to fund my large order from my manufacturer, so thank you! You'll also be the first to receive the new playing cards. They will be delivered two weeks after the campaign closes- around July 13th. Can't wait to see all those vacation Instagram photos with the Islet playing cards. Risks and challenges
We are good to go! I've already talked to my manufacturer, whom I've used many times with great results, and the timeline works. The quality of the playing cards are awesome, just the right amount of shine and bend. I've already had three successful Kickstarter playing card campaigns, and each time I deliver faster!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
