Lagos, aka Las Gidi is the heart and soul of Nigeria. It’s the biggest City in sub Saharan Africa with lots to see and do. This board game is a tribute to Eko Ile, a city that's; a Refuge as it home to all ; a Sage, you learn by the second; a Guardian, It protects its own; all about the Streets, Smarts and Commute, who, what and where you know is all that matters.
This project will help raise the profile of Lagos as both a tourist destination and a place of fun.
If you love Lagos, Chess and Draughts then you need the board game, Eko-Akete
I designed Eko Akete, the chess and draughts game as a tribute to Lagos, the City I grew up in. Chess as a game has a few City tributes, London, New York and a few others and I wanted to make something unique about the Lagos Edition.
So I came up with a few images and icons and after a few months and several iterations, decided on the final pieces you see. I also settled on the black and yellow colour as I just didn’t want it to be a black and white thing and the yellow and black concept will be easy to understand for those that know Lagos.
Chess is more of an elite game in Lagos but draughts is played on every street corner and I wanted a game everyone could relate with, so I added more pawns (than usual for chess) to make it easy for anyone who wanted to use it simply for draughts.
So back us and get one. Take a piece of Lagos with you.
Risks and challenges
The game was designed in Lagos and will be manufactured in the UK using Resin material to give it a fine and aesthetic finish. It is expected to ship from October 2018Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
