World of Furries (Canceled)
A multi-player web-browser-based, character-driven roleplaying game for the furry fandom, focused on adventure roleplay & customization
This page is better read on a computer! Some text may appear too small on small screens.
The furry community is a worldwide gathering of people of all ages, centered around one passion: animals. Most of the community has a preference for anthropomorphic animals who walk on two legs, much like in Walt Disney’s Robin Hood, or the more recent Zootopia. For years we have traded art, characters, stories, and anything else our imagination would let us create!
Many furries have created specific characters that represent them, and yearn to see them come to life. What if you could actually create them, piece them together bit by bit, right on your Internet browser, with advanced customization, then use this avatar to interact with other furries? Well, that’s exactly the plan: a browser-based multiplayer game made by furries, for furries: World of Furries! (WOF for short)
This silly girl would not give up on it, however. She was patient and waited three years until the team’s dev was available again, but that was because he became unemployed. With no means to pay him for the job, the team thought about crowdfunding and that maybe, with the support of the Internet and the furry community, this project could come to life!
World of Furries (WOF) is a multiplayer browser-based game where you can create and develop your own furry character.
Your character has six base stats that you will be able to increase by taking various actions on the game, such as exploration, missions, jobs... as well as happiness and cleanliness levels! Players have an experience bar that fills depending on their actions. New things unlock around the game as you level up! You could end up with a house, or as a wizard with magic before you know it...
You start the game with a quantity of coins and ★ stars, the premium pay-for currency for the game. You have an inventory for items that are gained throughout the game with possibility to craft objects by combining items together according to certain recipes. Your energy bar fills with time and points are used for actions on the game.
Furries can communicate with each other using a private messaging system. You have a shoutbox (mini-chat), as well as an integrated forum. You can also interract with each other through roleplay actions! You can also create and manage guilds, that are ranked through their members.
This is a schematic game interface draft that will allow you to get an idea what to expect! Of course this is by no means actual game design, only a concept of the character page!
Character creation and customization is the heart of the game. We will feature a total of 14 species available at launch, with many more planned, including a few to unlock during the campaign. You’ll be able to impersonate the classic dog, wolf, fox and cat, but also a horse, a colorful pony, a tiger, a lion, a bear, a stag, or even a shark or an eagle! The mythical dragon and unicorn will also be available as pay-for species.
We follow the same principles as a doll dress-up game, meaning that on any given character base, you’ll be able to change colors (chosen among the available ones), add clothes, accessories, etc. You’ll have a few modifications on hand upon starting (so that you won’t be fur-naked!), but most of them will be acquired as you play - through exploration, purchases, wins… among others!
Here is what you can do in-game to bring back loot into your inventory! Most cost energy, which regenerates over time, and will always yield game experience towards leveling up. Right now there are three possible actions:
Leave the village and wander into the forest, the mountains, the desert, and many other locations to discover, including some well-hidden ones… You will explore through mini role-play stories, and you could run into good or bad situations! As you level up, more diverse events await you.
The fastest way to earn money! At the village, there’s always something to do, and a lot of characters will ask for your help in their everyday activities, in exchange for money.
You have stats; for example strength and endurance, and the better they get, the further you can explore and find new things. You can thus train to raise your aptitudes.
Others include Missions and Quests, which will unlock strange powers… which you’ll discover in time! Revealing everything on the Kickstarter would be no fun at all!
Every time you work for someone in the village, you learn something, even if it’s only sorting out paperwork or gathering carrots from a field! With enough perseverance, you’ll become good enough at something to be noticed by a job master, who will come to you and offer an apprenticeship. You could then become a hunter, a gatherer, a miner, or even a merchant, the only ones who can buy and sell to everyone from their shop. All jobs have expertise levels; as you grow more experienced, you will unlock new crafting recipes and new items to find.
You have an inventory where all found, bought or earned items go. There are several categories: some are for your furry character, like clothes and single-use items; others are sought out by certain passionate characters; materials are mostly used in craft recipes. Craft is used to combine your items into something new. For example, a stick, some string and a bit of wire could be ingredients for crafting a fishing pole! Some recipes can be used by anyone, but most are exclusive to certain jobs.
A lot of furries are artists themselves! For that reason, you can open your own art shop in-game! You’ll then unlock a reputation bar, which will increase with every commission you deliver and every positive comment from your customers. You’ll be able to offer commissions, with up to ten available slots each, that other players can buy, thus reserving it. They’ll be able to pay in coins or stars, according to your preferences, which will be credited to you as soon as your deliver the finished art.
Most important within the furry fandom are of course the furries themselves! We prepared lots of ways you can interact with your peers, in the most usual or unusual ways.
It’s a small chat box that’s always visible no matter where you are in the game, very easy to use at any time. You can activate or deactivate it, enlarge it and reduce it back.
Players can form groups named Guilds. They can then access a private guild chat for members only, customizable ranks, and various in-game perks.
These are descriptive words that you can choose to display next to your name. For example, you can be called Thomas “the Warrior”, or Thomas “Fox King” (they will of course be adapted to your chosen gender)! They can be unlocked while playing, or given out as event rewards. There happens to be an exclusive one for Kickstarter backers, which you can only obtain this way!
- Contribute to World of Furries Universe!
Upon launching the game, there will be a set number of items and role-play scenarios available. To help the game grow and leave your mark (all validated submissions will bear your name), we offer the possibility to add your own! If you can draw or write, it will be a good way to earn coins and stars with every contribution. But beware: quality controls will be in place!
You should also know that like all Itchy games (that’s our team’s name! Fitting?), WOF is free-to-play, and not pay-to-win. The in-game real-money purchases are based on ★ stars. They don’t impact a player’s progression - it means that no matter how your bank account is looking, everyone is equal in the game. World of Furries works with an energy points system which cannot be repeatedly refilled by paying. Stars can be earned in-game, and players will be able to trade them using an in-game mechanism. We are players first and foremost, and we strongly dislike this current trend of games monetizing at every opportunity - including requiring pay-to-win. We want to prove that you can be a viable company without frustrating players into paying to grow faster.
There are three of us! We became friends from working on short game projects, then formed an actual company, Itchy, for legal purposes with these projects.
He codes and sets up the websites we come up with! He’s 30 and lives in the northern part of France, where it’s way too cold for normal folks to live. He’s now working full time on our games and is more than ready to take on this new challenge - he’s been wanting to code a character management game for a while, he’s pretty excited about it!
Role: web development, implementation of web design, server setup and more technical stuff
This is the core of the team, the tree of us who are together in our company called Itchy (named after the cat, it’s not actually an itching company)! We met years ago working with others on a game called Spicefight, which has since then been taken down for re-coding. We’ve been working together successfully ever since on various websites. Trust and friendship are at the heart of our partnership, and it even survived the creation of Itchy four years ago.
But! There’s one more working on World of Furries: the illustrator! She is a well-known artist in the furry community and active on various online galleries, so feel free to look her up and see what she does!
She will be the artist responsible for everything artsy! She’s 25 and came to France from Switzerland. She works on the Kickstarter with us, and will be employed full-time for the game if the fundraising is successful. She has a lovely precise style which fits perfectly into the game’s atmosphere.
Itchy SAS is a company of four individuals we created in France in February 2015. The fourth person is Camille’s father, who helps us and offers much-needed financial advice. All associates have equal parts in the company, except Camille, who put in a bit more because we legally needed someone to be the leader.
Besides World of Furries, we coded and published several Internet websites for commercial clients. As of January this year, we decided to concentrate solely on editing online games. For four years, we’ve been developing a game engine which will allow us to create browser games without having to start from scratch every time. For example, Spacefight, a space conquest game, is currently in its beta-testing phase (only in French for now). It’s the first game to run on an advanced managing engine, which we named Tog in memory of its creator. It needs more module coding to be able to handle other game types, such as breeding games or character management - like World of Furries - and that’s what our developer is trying to do right now.
The rest of donations will go to paying for the servers, domain names, and the various side expanses of managing a project this size.
We plan to start coding the engine’s modules right after the end of the Kickstarter campaign, to get as much done as possible before the illustrator becomes available and can start working full-time on the project. Text redacting will also start very quickly (and there’s a lot of it, with the game being a lot on the roleplay side!) and will go on… forever…
We should have an alpha version (which is basically a first draft) about mid-year 2019, then a beta version (complete but glitchy) around autumn; then the final official version release at the beginning of the following year, in 2020.
As you can tell, coding a game from start to finish is no small business, and we cannot rush things, or we could pay a heavy price later in stability and flexibility. So we’ll have to be patient! Meanwhile, you will get lots of updates and game images, and some of you will even be able to test the alpha and beta version early on.
At all times, we will be present on the Discord server to answer any questions and take care of the Kickstarter rewards!
Any important news will also be published via our Twitter page.
The goals are total amounts to reach. You can see them as steps in our crowdfunding campaign! When we reach one, all backers gets new rewards for the game and sometimes themselves !
These are rewards that you’ll get for yourself, individually, when you make a contribution. The provided numbers are not mandatory, and you can input your desired amount manually if you prefer. You’ll then get the reward for the tier under your number. Donations stack: If you make several donations, your total for the whole duration of the campaign will be taken into account for your reward.
Rewards quickly include a Premium Membership subscription; this mode enables the Encyclopedia on your account, which records game features you've already encountered and how many are left to discover. You will also earn more stars when leveling up, and account stats (like how many times you explored the Forest, for example). Other features will also be added as the project takes shape.
Watch out for the White Stork and Swan tiers! You have two choices for each, on top of each other: if you want art rewards by Ruby, do pick the limited ones! (if you can’t, it ran out)
You will get a form to fill.
WARNING: To get your rewards in the game, you must input the email address you plan on using when registering on World of Furries!
For all Discord rewards, they'll be awarded if your Kickstarter name matches your Discord name; if not after a few days, please send a private message to GalopaWXY with your Kickstarter name and how much you contributed.
Artistic rewards will start being made and sent to you starting next year, mid-2019.
Any donation will entitle you to receive:
- Your username on our thank you list in game
- “Founder” achievement on your profile
- The “Backer” role on the Discord server
- All goals rewards unlocked during the campaign
And the additional tier rewards listed to the right.
