This October, as the U.S. war with Afghanistan
begins its second decade, as the 2012 federal austerity budget slashes
entitlement programs, people will once again take to streets.
But this time it is different.
Inspired by events in Egypt, Spain and Madison Wisconsin, WI this time, the
protesters are not leaving.
The October 2011 Coalition will orchestrate a sustained occupation of
Washington, DC’s Freedom Plaza.
To tell this once in a generation story, I need your financial support.
WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR
Money raised for this project will be used to
travel to Washington DC, and other pre- and post protest interview locations,
cover expenses for a small crew and cover all other
logistical and post production cost up to and including public exhibition and
distribution of a completed feature length documentary.
WHAT I WILL DO
As a participant in this protest and a member
of the steering committee planning it, I will have a unique perspective and
story to tell- a story that will include interviews with organizers, notables
and other participants before, during and after the event, as well as up close
and personal footage of the ongoing protest, occupation, and police response.
of thousands of people will join with those who have already signed the pledge
including Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Margaret Flowers, Cynthia McKinney, Ray
McGovern, Rev. Graylan Hagler, The Yes Men, Ted Rall, Jane Hamsher, Matthew
Rothschild, Medea Benjamin, Chris Hedges and many others – a pledge to come and NONVIOLENTLY resist the
corporate machine by occupying Freedom Plaza in Washington DC until our
resources are invested in human needs and environmental protection instead of
war and exploitation.
This simple request is what the majority of people in the United Sates want, and yet it falls on deaf ears because our Representative Democracy is broken.
October 6th is the beginning. This is not a single day, carry a cool sign and chant the cool chants protest where we will get back on the bus and go home at the end of the day.
We are staying. We are occupying Freedom Plaza.
This documentary will serve as an inspirational early chapter in the evolving culture of resistance that is coming into being here in the United States.
