This book is about Julia and her uncle. Julia has had a terrible day and her uncle is trying to cheer her up after picking her up from school. He does this by introducing her to the Triple C: the Childish Children's Club. The Club is to encourage people to slow down and enjoy certain things that are easy to neglect. Walking at your own pace even if everybody else is rushing past. Smiling at strangers. Asking 'Are we there yet?' as many times as you like. Collecting conkers or simply imagining things.
The book-idea was created in 2006 for a solo show at the Greenwich Picturehouse. My brother had just had his first child, a daughter, and I was very excited to have a niece. The problem was that my brother lives in Sweden, where I'm from, and I live in London. I was annoyed about the fact that I would not be able to spend as much time as I wanted with my niece. There were all these things that I probably wouldn't be able to do and to show her. Like picking her up from school. So I wrote the book about an uncle who gets to introduce his niece to all these different things.
If my pledge is successful, the book will be published by Ratatosk Publishing, a publishing company specialising in children's books and books on architecture which I have created with my friend Fredrik Torisson.
The first book that we published was The Snot Book, which you will be able to get as a reward. It's an educational little story which illustrates descriptive words like long/short, smooth/crispy etc.
Risks and challenges
'Julia and the Triple C' is almost ready to go to print. It will be printed in 500 copies and I will then sign, stamp and number each one of them. I've found a UK-based printer, which means that if my goal is reached it's full steam ahead. I'm doing the final adjustments with the layout of the cover as well as some little fiddly bits inside the book. I expect to be able to send off all the rewards in mid-April and launch the book in May.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
