Why Geology For Kids?
For the entirety of my teenage son's school career, he has been taught at home. We are not "traditional" home-schoolers in the sense you might believe. He has always been enrolled in a California independent study charter school. I have had the chance to be active in his choice of study and curriculum material. We gravitated toward independent study to foster his love of learning.
However, early on, I realized a gap in understanding the diverse geology of our state for young kids-- especially for kids in home study programs. California has fascinating geology. I wanted to bring some of this interest to younger kids in a friendly, concise manner that could easily be used at home or in a classroom.
Why Do I Seek Funding?
Originally, this book started as a weekend DIY project. As time has gone on, I have realized that I need to do some further research, get to various locations to take pictures, set up various technical details of the book (ISBN, copyright, printing, etc.), and I would like to obtain professional editing and fact-checking services. Additionally, I would like to have funds to help develop extended activities to go with the book.
I believe understanding how our world has been formed by the forces of nature and science should have a place in even a young child's education. What better, though small way, to help bridge the science education gap than to introduce and inspire children early in their education to seek out the very elements that have formed the landscape around them?
If you have even a passing interest in education or inspiring children, help contribute. Even a small amount helps! I will keep my funders updated as the project takes off.
Won't you contribute that small pebble that will start the mountain?
Risks and challenges
Any project has challenges and risks. I could experience delays in services. However, I will face each challenge as it arises.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
