Backing our project funds the first round of production for the Premji Pack. In addition to launching this awesome new design, your pledge helps sustain direct employment for the artisans who hand-make the traditional textiles built into every bag.
How it works: Select the reward level you want on the right, click the green button to back our project and join the tribe. It's as easy as that! Most reward levels are only available to a limited amount of backers, so act fast!
Important note: You can only back this project once. So if you want one for yourself and perhaps another bag or two as gifts, we suggest going for the Shaman or Triah bundles.
At Ethnotek, our mission is to keep culture alive by creating high quality laptop and travel bags that feature ethically-sourced handmade textiles. Your purchase sustains employment for the art of hand printing, weaving and embroidery in our partnering artisan villages in Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. Ethnotek is so much more than a bag! It's a celebration of culture, a community, and a global movement!
Shipping for all Ethnotek add-on items is included in your initial pledge, collaborative item add-ons require additional shipping:
- Kammok & BioLite: US/CA = $12, Rest of the World = $24
- Bureo: US only = $12

4) Click checkout in Backer Kit and do a happy dance! Your goods will immediately start production and ship in April.
When it comes to the design, we have drawn on our years of travel and adventure to create the pack that we would want to carry. Strap attachment, reflective webbing, front pocket with built-in organizer, contoured padded shoulder straps, stretch-mesh water bottle pocket, zip pocket in top hood, top-loading 20 liter main storage compartment and laptop compatibility for 13-15” laptops are just a few great features that will rock steady with you on your daily journeys.
The Premji Pack will come in six vibrant colors and patterns:
Ghana 24: A block-printed lavender leaf pattern on deep purple from artisans in Western Africa.
Indonesia 6: A rich-blue Javanese batik, direct from the artisan's hands in Surakarta.
Guatemala 1: A signature Central American multicolor pattern, like a macaw out of the jungle.
India 8: Our foundational pattern, hand-woven by the master, Premji, himself!
India 11: A similar motif to India 8, but in a warm red and orange colorway.
Vietnam 5: A hand embroidered masterpiece from the Hmong hill tribes of Northern Vietnam. Indigo blue base with black white and brown embellishments.
Vietnam 6: Another stunning hand embroidered piece from the Hmong hill tribes of Northern Vietnam. Indigo blue base with bright orange, green and floral sections.
Vietnam 11: A sophisticated design that has a multicolor motif on a navy blue base. From Cham artisans of the Phan Rang village in Central Vietnam.
Ethnotek is proud of this chain of supply and demand. Our loyal Tribe of customers are a whole new market for local artisans like Premji, and a source of sustainable demand for their fabric. Ethnotek isn’t a charity, it relies on entrepreneurialism and global commerce to keep artisans in business, and their cultures thriving.
We've been in business for five years, we've developed close relationships with artisans around the globe, and we've learned a lot along the way. With experience under our belts and smiles on our faces, we can confidently say that we will have no problem delivering your bags! Throughout this campaign and up to delivery, we will give regular updates and in-depth profiles on each design, artisan, and the overall project. Risks and challenges
We've been designing, producing and shipping bags for five years already, so delivery will be no problem for us. There are a few things, though, that we'd like to give you a heads-up on...
Lead Times: The artisan fabrics are, in fact, authentically made by hand on a loom, block-print or by needle-point. Because of this, these stunning works of art have a life before we even begin production. That is why our estimated delivery time is in April. Don't worry, though, we'll keep you informed every step of the way so you know exactly where your Premji is in the timeline, from artisan to your doorstep!
Uniqueness: Our artisans make their textiles in large sheets. We cut multiple smaller panels out of these large sheets for each individual bag. Each bag is entirely unique, looking slightly different than the photos provided. The difference is very subtle, and most people don't even notice. For instance: With the Guatemala 1 style... The red and yellow stripes are slightly higher or lower on each bag than what's shown in the images above, making each bag one of a kind. Everything else is identical. We see these as "signatures of handmade", which are to be celebrated. We'll explain more about this throughout the campaign as well, so stay tuned!
Taxes, Duties & Shipping: Ethnotek is absorbing some of the shipping charges on each bag but, due to the complex and sometimes unknown nature of international taxation, backers will be responsible for covering any VAT, import duties, etc, in their country of residence / delivery. We'll work closely with Shipwire and BackerKit to minimize these costs for you (if any).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
