Justice of the Pies is a bakery service that specializes in sweet and savory pies, and quiches. The staff at Justice of the Pies include people who have faced significant difficulties and barriers in gaining employment. This may include those with histories of criminal conviction, those who have lost their jobs and are currently living in a shelter with their families, or those who may feel that they are down on their luck and need a second chance in life.
Job training and development is paramount to the mission of Justice of the Pies. The staff will have an opportunity to acquire a work history, develop measurable job skills, and increase their marketability.
Justice of the Pies is inspired by the late Stephen J. Broussard, father of Justice of the Pies creator, Maya-Camille Broussard.
Steve Broussard was an attorney in Chicago who specialized in criminal law. As a defense attorney, he was passionate about the idea that his clients deserved second chances. When asked why would he represent people whom have been accused of rather heinous crimes, his philosophy was simply this: "If I don't defend them, then who will?"
Steve also had an epicurean spirit and considered himself to be a semi-professional baker. He was so convinced that he made the very best pies and quiches that he declared himself to be the "Pie Master".
In creating Justice of the Pies, Maya-Camille is honoring his belief in redemptive opportunities as well as his love for anything made with a crust.
The local community could benefit from Justice of the Pies through its job training and creation opportunities, mentoring relationships, developments of transferable job skills, and honing of leadership abilities.

When applying for permits, licenses, insurance and classes there is always a possibility of a delay in the process. However, having previously owned an establishment that served food, Broussard is well-versed in the application process of the above and does not anticipate any major delays.
If there are any hiccups in the process, we are well prepared to navigate it and get back on track as quickly as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
