Starlight Inception is the rebellious stepchild of Wing Commander, X-Wing and Freespace 2, taking a fresh approach to a classic genre.
Starlight Inception is the rebellious stepchild of Wing Commander, X-Wing and Freespace 2, taking a fresh approach to a classic genre.
3,724 backers pledged $158,152 to help bring this project to life.

We made it!

We promised you something realistic and relevant.  We promised you something exciting, gritty and realistic...

...what we didn't know was that it would apply to the game AND the Kickstarter campaign.

Down to the wire, down to the last 26 minutes or so, it had to be like this - it couldn't be easy, because creation never is easy.  It is always borne of sweat, determination, sacrifice and raw will.  And you all demonstrated those qualities a hundred fold, backing this campaign and sticking with it as we learned our hard lessons about how to run a Kickstarter campaign properly.

It is so awesome to know that we have so many backers excited about what we're going to create together over the next year, and to know that you'll all have input into the process will make the development a joy.  We may not always please everyone, but we certainly will do our best to make a great space game.

And we had to hit some records today - I've heard (unconfirmed) that we were the 11th highest funded video game Kickstarter in the history of the site, and that's without even being a staff pick for one day!

I just want to give a shout out to my wife, Melissa, who was sooooo supportive through this, helping with the videos, giving me crap when I did stuff wrong, and keeping this thing on track.  Thank you!

Can I say it now officially?  You have all proven that the space sim genre is not dead.  Loud and clear!

Time to start lighting up the sky!

Our sincerest thanks,
Garry, and the Escape Hatch Team

Fantastic! I am so excited for this project and it's a privilege to be a part of it. I share the same passion as you for space combat games and I thank you for giving me an avenue to share in this creation.

I'm not completely sold on the game (I prefer more trading than combat), but I backed you because of the passion I could see in that video on the Kickstarter page. Congratulations on nabbing funding, you guys definitely deserve it!

Finally looks like a decent space sim. I has been far to long

    6. Valentin on May 9, 2012

I funded late last week and put my money in thinking "there's no way they're going to get ~$90,000 in under a week". I am floored how great a response the project has gotten!

Can't wait to hear status updates as the project progresses - great job!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that went to sleep quite sad with just a few hours left and a lot of fund still needed, but woke up seeing how miracles sometimes can come true. Congratulations to EHE for the success with this campaign!

    14. Robert V Frazier on May 9, 2012

@Thomas Toledo Don't worry about Carmageddon. It's at 26% with 28 days to go. It's a major sequel to a game with a rabidly loyal fan base. It is guaranteed to be fully funded; it's only a question of how far it will overshoot. 200%? 300%? 800%? Oh, and it is really pretty far off-topic in this discussion. There's a time and place for everything.

So glad this came together - Space Sims are massively under-appreciated genre and its great to see there are enough x-wing heads out there to make it so... well done Garry and Team.

I went to bed last night with 3-4 hours left of the campaign, and all I could think was: "I'm hoping this campaign is successful!". It was REALLY great news waking up to this, and I can only imagine what you guys went through! Congratulations you guys! :D

Awesome guys! I went to bed with 8 hours and 20.000 left and thought that we weren't goin to make it, only to wake up to the great surprise that we did.
For me it was a simple choice, slightly modifying what a friend of mine said to me: you had me on "Starlight Inception is the rebellious stepchild of Wing Commander, X-wing and Freespace2" :P

@Garry: Just a little question: where do we send the notices regarding the nature of our pledges (for example, I pledged 130$, 105 for the deluxe box tier, 15$ for the shipment and 15$ for an European Vita digital version)? Do we wait till August 2013 to clarify our position or will you tell us what to do in the next weeks?

    42. Thomas Toledo on May 9, 2012

really great! Now we just need to help Carmageddon, they are quite short.
