3,724 backers pledged $158,152 to help bring this project to life.

We made it!

We promised you something realistic and relevant.  We promised you something exciting, gritty and realistic...

...what we didn't know was that it would apply to the game AND the Kickstarter campaign.

Down to the wire, down to the last 26 minutes or so, it had to be like this - it couldn't be easy, because creation never is easy.  It is always borne of sweat, determination, sacrifice and raw will.  And you all demonstrated those qualities a hundred fold, backing this campaign and sticking with it as we learned our hard lessons about how to run a Kickstarter campaign properly.

It is so awesome to know that we have so many backers excited about what we're going to create together over the next year, and to know that you'll all have input into the process will make the development a joy.  We may not always please everyone, but we certainly will do our best to make a great space game.

And we had to hit some records today - I've heard (unconfirmed) that we were the 11th highest funded video game Kickstarter in the history of the site, and that's without even being a staff pick for one day!

I just want to give a shout out to my wife, Melissa, who was sooooo supportive through this, helping with the videos, giving me crap when I did stuff wrong, and keeping this thing on track.  Thank you!

Can I say it now officially?  You have all proven that the space sim genre is not dead.  Loud and clear!

Time to start lighting up the sky!

Our sincerest thanks,
Garry, and the Escape Hatch Team

You've got to be kidding. Had resigned myself to this not happening when there were 2 hours left to go. Congratulations!

Garry, this is without a doubt one of the most exciting events I've ever had the pleasure of being involved in. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that so many people stepped up and helped make this happen.

I can't wait to see the finished product and very much look forward to watching the progress of Starlight Inception as it evolves over the next year. Having known you and being fortunate enough to have you share your knowledge and experience, I know without a doubt that this will be a great game.

Again, I am extremely happy to hear that this project has been funded, congratulations to you and the entire team, we look forward to great things to come.

So excited about this. I'm all fuzzy inside just thinking about having an epic space adventure on my vita. Was more than happy to support this endeavour. Well done guys, good luck with the game. Try to have it out soon for me ;)

This Kickstarter's last hour has been one of the more exciting gaming experiences in 2012, even if there was no actual game to play (at least for now :P). I'm so glad you were able to meet your goal :)

I'm just thrilled that we made it. 11th highest video game funding is awesome - thanks for looking into that!

However, if you look at indie titles, or titles without huge names attached, in the games section (so, the first three don't count), they rank pretty high. Even higher if you take out the zombie games.
Oh, and they are currently the #1 Space Combat Flight Sim on Kickstarter. ;)

That was just a tad nerve-wracking.

Congrats, guys! I was a little worried there but I'm glad your creation is getting funded.

      10th spot.. typo sorry :)

    11. Noe Ridgway on May 9, 2012

*facepalm* nevermind, found it... right in the sidebar....

    12. Ben Thomson on May 9, 2012 - If you look there, Starlight Inception is the 11th placed Video Game in Kickstarter history. Only 600 odd dollars off taking first spot lol.

    13. Noe Ridgway on May 9, 2012

Atarun - where is this list? I just tried to find something like it, but my search-fu is apparently weak.

    14. Stephen Staver on May 9, 2012

So far, it's the 11th highest funded Kickstarter.... in the GAMES category only. But not site-wide (Check out the Design and Technology categories for far more kickstarters with more)..
But still, looking forward to playing.

11th highest funded? Not even close.
Starlight Inception is currently in 14th position on the Most Funded Games list. That without all other categories and without games that haven't reach the end of their campaigns yet.
But that last minute rush? I'm sure we hold a record there. ^^

Maybe 11th most funded in a single day or something like that. There's certainly been plenty of higher funding totals or funding percentages. But all the same, the last few days, and today especially, were quite spectacular. I'm still amazed (and thrilled) that funding is go.

Sooooo happy it made it through but too close for my tastes.

One other thing. 100 years from today starts today.

The Air Force had 3 categories for evaluations - Not Satisfactory/Satisfactory/Outstanding. This game is going to definitely be outstanding! I'm proud to be on board with you and can't wait to see the great things coming out of Escape Hatch and the Space Force.
