With all the events happening today and the technology to discover them, there’s an event out there for everyone. But often we don’t like to go out alone, and when our friends aren’t available to join us, we end up deciding to stay at home, again. This results in a lot of missed chances, chances for new experiences, and chances to meet new people. You can always try to find someone else to go with, but how do you find them and how do you find the right person?
With mingl, you not only get attend events that you’ve always wanted to go to, but you get to do it with people that are equally as interested in going. And since the event is the common interest, setting up the meeting time and place is already taken care of.
How it Works
Getting started with mingl is super easy:
Being college students from UC San Diego, we are very exposed and familiar with the variety of dating apps out there. Despite all the options, they seem to fall short of what singles today really need, creating this perspective that dating apps are a waste of time and only a last resort for those desperate enough. We wanted to challenge this assumption and change the game for dating apps by introducing a different approach, one that’s friendlier and more laid-back. With mingl, we’re giving the opportunity for you to have fun while you put yourself out there.
Our team is composed of 4 students from various backgrounds:
Ali Abuelhassan is a design student with product design experience with Syrian refugees and in healthcare. Ali enjoys cycling and documenting his travels.
Lisa Grega is a 3rd year cognitive science student who wants to apply her design experience towards social good, and is currently exploring healthcare design.
Kyle Rico is a cognitive science student with a specialization in Human Computer Interaction. He has learned and is refining his skills in UX/UI design. His fascination in UX design grows from his interest in human decision making and he plans to turn this passion into something that can benefit the world.
John Wishon is a computer science student and identifies as a "creative computer guy inspired by good design."
Breakdown of Expenses
A huge portion of time for the upcoming months will be dedicated to development of the app so we do require funding to sustain ourselves to allow us to dedicate as much time as possible to focus on the project. We also need to cover advertising and networking with businesses so we get a large variety of entertaining and unique events, which also includes background checks to ensure that the events we are suggesting to users are legitimate.
