Why Make a Film About Muslim Women, Anyways?

Posted by Unity Productions Foundation (Creator)

So, What's the Point?

Amidst the excitement and support for our upcoming film on World War II hero, Noor Khan, entitled, "Enemy of the Reich: The Noor Inayat Khan Story," it is only natural to wonder what the point was to put together a project on this topic. Why aren't we focusing on Muslim Americans in the present, or on situations of crisis and aid abroad? Why are we choosing to focus on a story from the past, about a solitary Muslim woman?

It is only natural, with public ignorance surrounding Muslim communities, that we focus on educating with films that bring awareness to who Muslims are. However, that is simply confronting ignorance with solutions that miss the root of the issue.

 WHAT is Islam?

 WHO are Muslim women?

 What do they stand for?

Reaching back into time-honored tradition, we choose to live our beliefs rather than simply explain our beliefs, and that is where Noor Inayat Khan plays an important role.

With the silence of such a critical population, it is integral for us as a community of conscious individuals to ensure that we begin to shift the national conversation about who Muslim women are. This responsibility pushed us to unearth the unknown story of Noor Inayat Khan, a Muslim woman who bravely fought the Nazis during World War II, all alone yet strong in her faith. Her story cannot be told to the world without your support.

We are 10% of the way to our campaign goal of $45,000, and are making our way there! Every share, like and tweet from you counts.

We thank you from the bottom of our heart.

Stay tuned for further updates on how the campaign is going - we are excited to work with you to bring this inspirational story into the light of day! We thank you from the bottom of our heart.
