Art Focus: Sergey Vasnev
Hello Chosen Ones,
For GODS we want nothing but the best.
We gathered a team of artists from diverse professional backgrounds (Magic: the gathering, Ubisoft, TOR Books, Legendary, Riot Games, etc.) to help build the visual identity of the Wildlands and its inhabitants.
Those artists, working under the direction of Bastien Lecouffe Deharme and Julien Blondel, are here to bring their own style to the table, in the strong tradition of the Dark Fantasy genre.
Today, let us tell you a bit more about Sergey Vasnev!
Sergey was born in Russia, in the Moscow region at the end of the eighties.
He decided to focus on digital art after he graduated from university.
Sergey has a love for mood and ambiance in environments, and his favorite settings always evolve somewhere around fantasy or post-apocalyptic worlds.
He still lives in Russia and works as a freelancer in the gaming industry.
Bastien's words on Sergey's work - "I didn't know Sergey's work before we decided to get serious about GODS. The team at Arkhane asked Julien and I for the names of artists we wanted to invite in the creative team and we gave them our "list". They suggested we look at the work of an artist they were used to work with, and that's how I discovered Sergey's portfolio. It was exactly what I was imagining for GODS. A sense of mood and composition that fits perfectly with what I was looking for to build the visual identity of the Wildlands.
Working with Sergey is easy! I send him a few notes about the illustrations needed for the game, and he gets back to me with sketches that are even better than the pictures I had in mind. Sometime I don't even know what to chose among the sketches I receive because they are all excellent.
Sergey's images make the viewer want to jump in and discover the world behind them. They are an invitation for players."
