THE WILDLANDS: The North
In the north, beyond the Pass of Exil, the known parts of the Wildlands collide with sharp and impassable mountains. In these remote lands are Vaelor, the Land of Ice, whose fiery and hardened inhabitants learned to resist the rigors of the cold. Protected by fur, metal and bones, the imposing Vaelkyr warriors haunt the nightmares of southerners.
West of Vaelor, the mountains slide down into the sea, the snow disappears, and the ground crackles in fjords. In the cities of Helvegen and Krigsgaard, the Vaelkyr people of western Vaelor build their economy on agriculture, livestock, and travel, in contrast to the violent way of life that their snow brothers embrace.
To the north-east of Vaelor lies an unexplored and mysterious land, perpetually covered by a heavy fog. Called The Mist, or the Land of the Horn, lost travelers can hear long clamors during the windy nights.
Further south is Avhorae, the largest and oldest military and commercial power of the northern territories. With its castles and citadels of gray stones and its vast forests filled with wolves and overrun by ravens, Avhorae is a land of legends and old tales: a fertile and rainy land, inhabited by farmers, nobles, soldiers, merchants, thieves, or knights. Avhorae is a feudal and inflexible society.
To the west of the shores, standing in the furiously roiling Sea of Steel, are the islands of Aon, with cliffs and rocks full of a precious, black metal that only Master Blacksmiths know how to work.
