Art Focus: Pierre Raveneau
For GODS we want nothing but the best.
This is why we gathered a team of artists from diverse professional backgrounds (Magic: the gathering, Ubisoft, TOR Books, Legendary, Riot Games, etc.) to help build the visual identity of the Wildlands and its inhabitants.
Those artists, working under the direction of Bastien Lecouffe Deharme and Julien Blondel, are here to bring their own style to the table, in the strong tradition of the Dark Fantasy genre.
Today, let us tell you a bit more about Pierre Raveneau!
Pierre was born in France. From an early age, he found himself passionate about fantastic worlds and their depiction. After a brief career in graphic design while in Tokyo, he decided to drop his job and to learn illustration and concept art by himself. He eventually joined Gameloft in Madrid and then Ubisoft where he is currently working in Montreal. He enjoys working in a broad spectrum of genres, but he has a preference for dark fantasy.
Bastien's words on Pierre's work - "I have been following Pierre's work for a long time. As a fellow illustrator, I always thought we had many influences in common, and it felt almost natural to invite him to join GODS team. In fact, he was the first one I called. I told him about the world I was writing about, I did show him some of my early illustrations as well and he was totally enthusiastic. It didn't take long for him to send me some images and I knew he was the perfect guy for the job.
In the early stages, he focused a lot on the the people of Ool. Pierre loves to play with vivid colors and ornaments, gold and copper. Brass and silver.
One evening he dropped the "Purple Guard" picture in my mailbox. I remember thinking two things: "This guy is insane!" and "This guy is a genius!". We need both in the team."
And here is some of Pierre's work outside of GODS:
