RELEASE DATE: The artwork for this project is presently being created. The printed novella will be complete in SPRING 2017! :)
OCEAN GIRL is an all-ages one-shot graphic novella (in other words: a short-story comic book) about a young man named Lowan who is searching for the girl of his dreams: The Ocean Girl. But what he finds is not what he expects!
(Parents' note: We recommend reading the book before you present it to your children. Parental Guidance is suggested.)
THE STORY starts off in a small fishing village by the ocean. Lowan is sitting on the dock daydreaming of an ancient sailor's song: "Waiting by the ocean for the girl of my dreams. Looking across the water, she is never what she seems..." Suddenly Lowan's boss snaps him out of his daydream and tells him to get back to work and expects twice as many fish brought back in than yesterday.
Lowan jumps up and gets on board his ship. He sails off into the ocean and casts his net... All of a sudden, several stingrays surround his boat and lead him to a girl floating face up in the water. Her eyes are closed. As Lowan's boat gets closer, he looks down at her. Her eyes open wide, and she sinks under the water. That's where our story begins...
THE WRITING PROCESS began with Jerry writing the manuscript, which is currently being used as the outline for the art storyboards. The concept for the story was derived from song lyrics he had written twenty years ago. It was then that Jerry and Brian (along with Brian's brother, Derek) had a garage band called Pilgrim 404... and a song called... Ocean Girl.
Jerry started out writing a rough draft and then wrote a few revisions. Big thanks for the amazing input from friends and family!
Once Jerry and Brian felt it was ready, they printed an official final manuscript which was handed off to Brian to begin the artwork.
THE ARTWORK PROCESS starts with Brian creating pencil-drawn thumbnail sketches. This helps build a storyboard for the final artwork.
Brian is presently working on the final artwork and will not be completed until early 2017.
Here are some inked page examples. Color will be added later in the process.
THE REWARDS are as follows (Please note: Designs and colors subject to change).

Risks and challenges
At this point in the process, the manuscript is complete, and most of the design work for the rewards is complete. The storyboard process is well underway. What’s left is final artwork and design of the final book pages.
So time is the biggest risk. Brian has participated in his local comic con for a number of years as a vendor with past projects and is a professional artist and illustrator, accustomed to deadlines. Both Jerry and Brian are passionate about this project and are diligently working together to meet the May deadline.
There may be delays with the reward vendors, but these creators are excited to see this project through and are working to get everything ready long before the final deadline.
We’re super excited to see these Ocean Girl products completed and ready to work through any challenges!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
