Back at the end of 2014 I had a silly little idea to take and curate photos that churches can use in their designs and make them available for FREE.
Since then the site has grown beyond my wildest dreams. It serves up thousands of downloads a day and has been used by people all over the world... (literally over 200 countries!)
I have a real heart to keep the project going and growing! But I need your help...
The site is in desperate need of a re-build, to move to a new, better hosting and photo management platform.
This will enable me to upload, tag, categorise more photos than ever before; making the library even better for everyone..
The journey so far has been incredible and, although I can't offer big rewards for backers at this time, I really hope you guys will join in to try and smash through the target so Freely can move to a better home.
If you love what Freely is about I'd be so humbled if you'd back the project and help KickStart FreelyPhotos.com version 2.0!
Thank you and God bless.
What will the money go towards...
The money being raised will be spent in 2 key areas:
HOSTING & PHOTO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
The new hosting and photo management platform will be way more expensive than the one currently used and the kickstart funding will pay for this for the next 2+ years at least.
MAN HOURS:The initial build and redesign of the site will take a lot of time... This will also be a rebuild of the current categorisation to make finding images easier.
Plus there will be the transition of all existing photos and this is not that easy. The current WordPress site and the new platform aren't directly compatible with a simple export/import process.
To do all this alone would take me a long, long time and as Freely is essentially a hobby of mine I honestly couldn't do it all alone (...my family would not appreciate it!)
So... I will enlist the help of a keen, talented, unemployed and recently graduated member my church! It'll help him and it'll help Freely have a brand new home. Win - Win.
Risks and challenges
The main risks involved are limited to time to complete the transition of photos to the new site. I run Freely in my spare time and have a growing family so finding time to manage the site is sometimes a challenge. To overcome this I will use the funds raised to get extra help to complete the transition as quickly as possible.
Coding challenges may occur too, but with help from my best friend (a professional coder) this should be easily sorted!
