About this project
Welcome to our first Kickstarter campaign!
We’ve prepared something special for you – a straightforward campaign with no convoluted reward schemes and countless add-ons of dubious quality. For the past year, we’ve been hard at work on a project which aims to create a simple and intuitive game system that makes completing game objectives a truly gratifying experience. Thanks to a professional team of designers, we’ve succeeded!
MISSION: KATHARSIS is the first game set in the larger WARHELL universe, a far future world engulfed in a deadly struggle against spawns of Evil.
Mission: Katharsis is a tactical boardgame for 2 players. Meticulously crafted with dark future enthusiasts in mind, it takes place in year 3999, aboard an ARC-class spaceship. Gameplay is based on six-sided dice and is further enhanced by over 300 cards representing monsters, ship locations, as well as unexpected twists that may come about in the bowels of the vast spaceship. The inclusion of cards adds depth to the experience and makes it different with each play. At the same time, having part of the rules on cards instead of the manual makes it easier for new players to get the hang of the basics and spares them the hours of slogging through the rulebook before breaking the game out for the first time.

Mission: Katharsis - Game Overview
One of the players assumes command of an elite squad of the Sacred Liquidators. Liquidators are true heroes in the world of Warhell. Through their devotion to the Popess, extensive training, and unswerving faith, they’re capable of completing any mission. Only thanks to warriors like these may humanity hope to win the uneven war against evil.
Each of the Liquidators belongs to a different faction and boasts a unique set of skills. It’s up to the player to mold this group of mavericks into an unstoppable killing machine. Should he fail, he’ll lose, and the humanity will face its greatest threat yet.
The other player takes on the role of the demonic being controlling the Arc. His task is to thwart the Liquidators by whittling them down. The monsters he’ll throw at the elite warriors are no match for them. But blow by blow, the heroes will be worn down until they collapse of exhaustion. How many monsters die in the process is irrelevant... The Arc’s controller will have under his command all manner of demons as well as the ship’s mechanical guards, twisted by the powers of darkness. The demented AI overseeing the Arc will also be his ally – sudden room decompression, gun turrets, phony maps, terminals bursting into flames... All to help defeat the Liquidators.
What we offer isn’t some hazy idea of what we’d love to make if given enough money.
On the contrary - the game is already finished. What we need the funds for is to pay the manufacturing costs. The production will kick off immediately after the campaign ends.
The important part is that we plan to produce the game in a strictly limited number of copies, which means you’ll get a truly unique product. Unfortunately, this means that the cost will be a bit higher than average, but we feel the quality will more than make up for it.
A hardcore gamer, playtester of numerous games, and gifted game designer, Pawel Zuchowski, author of NORSGARD the miniatures game, has come up with a game that is easy to learn but hard to master.
Here’s what he has to say about the
project: „The cramped corridors of the demon-possessed spaceship lend the game
an atmosphere so many gamers are fond of – an atmosphere of constant danger
hiding round every corner. A never-ending horde of monsters against a
handful of elite warriors. A humongous spaceship to explore, through which
the Liquidators travel blind. Virtually every room presents you with tough
decisions – carefully search the given location, gathering needed supplies, such
as medkits, or force your way to the next room, so as to waste as little
strength as possible in unnecessary combat. Along the way you can also work
consoles to hack into the mainframe and gain access to floor plans, allowing
you to plan your route. But should you fail to crack the security protocols,
inadvertently setting off the ship’s defenses, the mission’s difficulty will
shoot up from lethal to suicidal. Risk management, tough calls, and Pyrrhic
victories are what makes Mission: Katharsis such a blast to play.”
What more could you ask for?
The story centers around the return of the arc Sanctus, sent out into the cold void of space centuries ago. Its caretakers were to carry away far from Earth potent relics the world was to forget until the war was over. Now, the arc has come back, emerging dangerously close to Earth. Its arrival means that the relics have remained hidden and out of reach of the spawns of evil, that thanks to their aura of holiness. But the cunning enemy looks to surreptitiously force humans to reveal their whereabouts. The Liquidators need to complete their mission, preventing the Old Enemy from claiming the holy objects before the greedy corporations can get their teams on board. The world stands on the edge of destruction, and its fate will be decided by a group of five individuals.
Elite members of a number of formations united against the Old Enemy by the decree of the supreme leader of humanity, Popess Lannae Kir Lattore, determined to foil Samael’s designs. He’s one of the most powerful fallen angels of ancient times, who stood against his brothers and whose reason for existing is to wipe out humanity, the filthy apes who usurped him of Father’s affection. Samael and his armies of fallen choirs have been long ravaging Earth in search of anything and everything that is sacred, especially the remains of the Son. Unbeknownst to all, Samael plays a cosmic game of chess between his former brothers from Heavens, the Lord of Darkness, and humanity. Now that all pieces are set, he brought back the accursed arc by a means of his own, and if all goes according to plan, mankind will doom itself...
The tactical side of the game isn’t simply about moving figures across the board but also about careful skill management – finding the right balance between beating back hordes of enemies and fulfilling mission objectives is key. The random factor is provided by cards and dice, although it can be manipulated to a degree by taking certain actions.
The game unfolds differently each time you play, and the wealth of cards allows you to play hundreds of one-of-a-kind matches. Game duration varies depending on player skill and familiarity with rules, but is roughly an hour to an hour-and-a-half.
The Sacred Liquidators are represented by high-quality resin miniatures sculpted by hand using traditional methods (with no assistance of 3D sculpting programs), giving them an organic, characterful look.
Other creatures are represented by cards designed by world-class illustrators. The clear and easy-to-read style lends itself to fluid play, thanks to an intuitive set of icons and other markings.

Due to the strictly limited number of copies, Mission: Katharsis will likely never see general distribution through retail stores. This is the main reason for the 45 Łprice tag. Please note that the game includes 5 unique , resin, superbly-detailed miniatures. Any unsold boxes we are left with after the Kickstarter campaign wraps up will be available to purchase from our webstore for 45 Ł unfortunatelly without any add-ons and specials. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, so grab ‘em while they’re hot! We’ve thus prepared a special treat to early backers, with the Early Bird pledge level allowing you to get your hands on the game for a mere 60 USD (standard pledge is 66 USD).

Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter, but being an independent company, we firmly believe our predictions regarding pledge fulfillment times are accurate. We’re positive the game will arrive at your doorstep by the end of November 2014. As with every enterprise, we cannot guarantee that we won’t hit some unforeseen issues, but we’ll make every effort to resolve them in a timely fashion.
We plan each step with utmost care, and there is little to no risk of delays. We guarantee you’ll receive your rewards by the end of November of this year – right smack in the middle of the holiday shopping season, and we believe our game will make for an awesome Christmas present!
Only World War Three could prevent us from realizing our plans and miss the delivery deadline. We cast our miniatures at our privately-owned workshop, with no third-parties involved and no chance of delays due to Chinese New Year and whatnot.
