About Hello Bezlo
What's a Bezlo girl? Bezlo girls are… fearless, ambitious and active. This project is about making clothes that empower these girls and inspire people around them. Hello Bezlo kicks gender stereotypes into the garbage and makes inspiring clothes with prints that focus on the fun things – adventures, dreams, computers, space and tea parties.
Hello Bezlo is about three principles: 1. Style 2. Comfort 3. Ethics
My name's Clodagh and my niece, Fiona, who's almost 4, is my inspiration. From the age of two she would run around playing “rocket girl”, blasting off into space. When I went to buy her clothes with a space themed print…all that was available were prints of spacemen. I could find countless butterflies, fairies and pony prints but couldn't find anything outside of traditionally girlie themes.
I had to resort to shopping in the boys department. Finding clothes suitable for adventuring and running free and wild that didn't compromise on style was impossible! Finding prints that inspired girls to reach for the stars rather than stay inside playing princess games was not an option.
My niece loves the outdoors and nature but still loves to wear her tutu, rock a cape and let her spirit take flight. She defines the girl we're designing for. She isn't a girlie girl or a tomboy.
There was no word to describe her, so I had to invent one: "Bezlo". She's a Bezlo Girl.
Design & Products
Our first collection is created for young girls everywhere, who love climbing trees, building forts but also love style and beautiful dresses. This is our chance to shine and introduce Hello Bezlo to the world as we launch and blast off! Each dress contains hidden pockets for secret treasures and has lots of room to allow for movement and twirls.
Hello Bezlo clothes are super - wearable, inspiring and stylish.
We strongly believe in producing clothes ethically. Sourcing the right fabric that fits our ethos has been very important to us. Creating ethical and sustainable fashion is our goal.
Our unique and bespoke prints have been created by the very talented Canadian illustrator,Leanne Thiessen (a Bezlo girl herself!)
In collaboration with Leanne and our Bezlo Girls, we created three patterns.
We have a rocket girl in space with star constellations complete with hidden pockets and an epic cape!
"Girl Code" ever hear of coding dress before?! Our bespoke design...Hello Bezlo written in binary code! How cool!
'Explorer' features a dream catcher print that ties in with the idea of nature, adventure and dreaming big.
We wanted to incorporate three of our favourite things - nature, imagination and technology.
Our clothes come in sizes from 2 - 3 years, 4 -5 years, 6 - 7 years & 8 - 10 years.
Our dresses are made of 100% natural organic cotton fabric. Our designs are digitally printed which means very little waste of fabric, ink, water or electricity. Our prints use eco-friendly, water-based inks on natural fiber textiles. No additional chemicals are used in the printing or preparation process. We are proud to be part of ethical fashion.
What is Ethical Fashion?
Ethical fashion represents an approach to the design, sourcing and manufacture of clothing which maximises benefits to people and communities while minimising impact on the environment. Market & Development
To prove there is a market for the Bezlo Girl, I embarked on a fact-finding mission to gather as much information as possible.
My background is in nursing and I have had to learn fast about the new world of fashion and startups.
I’ve taken part in a start up accelerator programme, attended many startup events, entered hackathons and even learnt some basic coding. Working on a tiny budget I’ve been able to apply the lean business model.
Brainstorming with Bezlo Girls
Through Instagram I have grown an active and engaged community of Bezlo followers from all over the world. I have organized brainstorming and design focus groups and received real feedback, not just from parents but also from Bezlo girls.
By producing prototypes I have been able to learn from feedback received, tweaking the designs to create a selection of clothes that fit beautifully, are comfortable and allow for movement (for all those exciting adventures). The prints are unique and inspiring and are a welcome break from all that pink and frills.
Hello Bezlo has come a long way in such a short space of time. To bring this collection to life we are faced with one last obstacle, our production costs. When people said it was “too crazy” and “too ambitious” to create a fashion line, especially one that is ethically made... We are here to prove them wrong.
This Kickstarter campaign can make Hello Bezlo a reality for Bezlo Girls everywhere. Join the Bezlo movement and help us bring the world of Bezlo to life.
