At Unbound we're inspired by the idea that time is precious and planning is powerful. So we're on a mission to help you organize your time and spend it with purpose.
This is unlike any planner you'll find at the store. It's a carefully crafted organizational system that will redefine how you manage your time.
And we wanted the outside to be just as good as the inside: it's beautiful, classic, durable, environmentally friendly and made right here in the USA.
Here we'll show you some examples of how we use the Unbound Planner:
Your friends need this planner. Help us spread the word!
With the holiday season coming up, we will send each backer a certificate-style email so you can print out and give as a gift!
YOU KNOW THE FEELING.
You wake up in the morning with a hundred things on your mind. You think about what to eat, who to call, what bills to pay, what to fix around the house, and what’s going to happen next in your TV show. You think about work. Whether you’re making the right decisions for your kids. How it’s been too long since you painted or played your guitar or exercised. How long it's been since you called your mom. You think about that idea you had. How you want to start volunteering. Vacation. Or how you’re feeling a bit depleted, and not sure how to fill yourself up again.
But before you know it, the day gets away from you, and the things that fill you up will have to wait another day. The next day goes the same, and the next and the next. Time just keeps moving, and despite your best intentions, you know you’re not spending it the way you want.
That was us. And that's why we created Unbound.
1. Focus on goals that matter to you.
Unbound is not about doing more things (unless you want it to be); it’s about doing the right things.
The opening pages get you started with some self-reflection to think about what’s really important to you. You then create a plan to prioritize what you want to do and weed out what you don't. Keep in mind any goal works - big or small - as long as it’s meaningful to you.
2. Track everything in one place.
At its heart, Unbound is an organizational tool meant to clear your mind by getting everything down on paper.
You’re 50% more likely to achieve your goals by writing them down, but too many well-intentioned goals are smothered by disorganization. This is where Unbound shines. You will find managing and tracking your goals to be natural by using this simple and beautifully integrated system. All of life's to-do's - from your big dreams to one-off projects to daily to-do's and habits ... all in one place.
3. Life practices that make you better.
Unbound emphasizes practicing mindfulness, gratitude, self-reflection, motivation, helping others and habit awareness.
These are proven to increase happiness, productivity and even physical health. Scroll down to our "Unbound: the science behind it" section for more details.
4. Thoughtfully and thoroughly designed.
Classic, beautiful, durable, environmentally-friendly and made right here in the USA. A special binding enables the book to lay flat when open to any page. You will love carrying it anywhere and everywhere.
If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to know what the pages actually look like ... and we'll show you. Read on for more details below, and we'll have lots more on our Facebook page.
The standard color Unbound Planner will retail for $40 after the Kickstarter (available for $35 now!); the special edition will retail for $45 (available for $40 now!).
Big dreams are not just for little kids. We designed Unbound to work for any type of goal, project, or to-do, and therefore any type of person. But we think it's especially valuable for those of you who:
- Balance multiple priorities, roles, and interests
- Crave organization or simplicity
- Like the idea of bullet-journaling but don't like building the spreads from scratch
- Think multi-tasking is productive (read this article)
- Feel like the days are long but the years are short
- Are constantly busy but not fulfilled
- Set goals but don't achieve them
- Have big dreams
The basic steps for our system are simple and effective:
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR
1. Start with self-reflection
2. Set meaningful goals
3. Build your timeline
THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
4. Incorporate monthly and weekly planning
5. Live unbound
If you're interested in the nitty gritty details, we've flushed them out for you below:
You also have some big goals that you want to elaborate on. Remodel the bathroom, plan a long vacation, launch a Kickstarter page, etc. For those we've included some dedicated project planning pages:
UNBOUND HELPS YOU BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU
We've incorporated the following life practices to help you make the most of your days:
PRACTICING GRATITUDE. This has been shown to increase positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better and improve your immune system. Keeping a gratitude journal can significantly increase your wellbeing and life satisfaction. We prompt you every single day to incorporate gratitude, even for the smallest things.
HABIT FORMING. Good habits are tough to form, and bad ones are tough to break. That's because habitual behaviors are actually engrained into neural pathways, in the physical portions of the brain. We integrate modern behavioral science behind forming habits by incorporating a habit tracker into every week.
SELF-REFLECTION. Several studies have linked success, efficiency, happiness and more to the practice of self reflection. These days it's becoming increasingly common for life coaches to encourage this practice to business executives because it helps them to be better leaders. We provide explicit self-reflection at the beginning and end of the year, as well as space for reflection each week and each month.
SINGLE-TASKING. Despite what our cluttered lifestyles might suggest, multi-tasking is tremendously less efficient than the alternative, and has been shown to increase cortisol and even lower IQ.Also, electronic screens affect our circadian rhythm, which has implications on physical, mental and emotional health. Writing down by hand as opposed to typing reinforces what we're writing and improves our memory. We reinforce single-tasking by freeing the clutter in your brain so you can prioritize efficiently.
MINDFULNESS. Being mindful and meditating have been shown to positively impact mental health and improve emotional regulation. We encourage mindfulness with weekly contemplative quotes, free space to journal and helping you be aware of how you spend your time.
Hi. I’m Annie. I came up with the idea for an organizational system like Unbound years ago after realizing I wanted much more than what typical planners offered. My head felt constantly cluttered with all my different to-do’s, projects and goals - big and small. I’d start each day with a lot I hoped to do, but without a plan, the day would inevitably fill up with whatever was right in front of me. After becoming a mom, this became even more true. I felt time was flying and knew I wasn’t being purposeful with how I spent it. Something needed to change and I knew I couldn’t be the only one that felt this way.
After years of considering making a planner, I decided to just go for it and Brant offered to do it all with me. Little did we know how much time, thought and energy it would take to bring us to this point. Every step of this process from the conceptualizing to the actual design to the marketing to the videography and photography to the Kickstarter page to finding the right manufacturer to learning how hashtag (ahem, Brant) has all been done by us. It’s been a true labor of love.
We couldn’t be more excited and proud to have built something we believe can help other people. We hope this will be the first of many years for Unbound.
We've uploaded a couple videos showing the chaos and fun that was had through the filming. Enjoy!
1. Filming with Kids.
2. Filming without Kids.
Also tough, it turns out.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk when you’re manufacturing a product is the timeline. We did a ton of research to find the ideal printer and bindery for our planners - one that was both reputable and committed to high quality.
We’ve worked out a timeline with them and expect to receive our planners at the beginning of January. At that point, we plan to work 24/7 to get all the books packaged up and sent to you ASAP. Our goal is that all U.S. backers will receive their planners within the first couple weeks of January. Our international (and Canadian) supporters understand that shipping times will take longer and assume liability for any customs and/or import charges due upon delivery. All backers will receive the complete pdf of Unbound once the campaign ends in December.
We are committed to being transparent during this entire process and keeping you updated with any changes. Please contact us with any questions.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
