About this project
Check out our exciting updates above, including the list of exclusive how-to videos available to our supporters!
Camp Chippewa is a playful, fun and heartfelt adventure film that takes place in the summer of 1973. An anti-social ten-year-old boy named Mikey is stuck at summer camp when his older brother Bobby is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. As he leaves camp, Bobby gives Mikey a secret treasure map, and when Mikey decides to follow it he and the other kids at camp are thrust into a reckless, funny and exciting adventure as they hunt for hidden treasure.
My previous films have been selected by some of the most prestigious film festivals and special exhibitions around the globe including The Cannes International Film Festival: Director's Fortnight Exhibition along with festivals in Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington DC, Amsterdam, Seattle, Chicago, London, Savannah, and others. Our incredible up-and-coming cast members have been featured in some of this year's most successful films and television shows including "Lawless" with Shia Lebouf and Tom Hardy, "The Watch" with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn, "Trouble With the Curve" with Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams and the hit Lifetime series "Drop Dead Diva".
We'll be completing production of our film, assembling publicity materials, and submitting to film festival competitions beginning in November. Meanwhile we will also be producing a behind-the-scenes video documenting our final shoot and collecting helpful advice from our cast and crew regarding independent filmmaking from performance to production, and producing a series of short web tutorials explaining everything from processes for constructing useful filmmaking gear, to recommendations for high-quality inexpensive camera and lighting equipment that was tested and proven over the course of our production.
We will also be documenting the experiences of the children performing in the film along with that of their parents in order to create a helpful and informative program that helps to prepare them for working on a film set, and sheds a little light on what they should expect from the process.
And of course, as a special thanks to our Kickstarter supporters, we'll also be producing some really cool exclusive souvenirs for your generous contribution!
Above all we want to finish the exceptional film we've all invested our sweat and passion into and to share our experience as a crash course for other indie actors and filmmakers hungry for information on how to execute a dynamic and polished independent film inexpensively.
This is how your backing will support these projects:
By participating in our project and witnessing the nuts and bolts of our process we hope to open independent filmmaking up to artists everywhere who are aspiring to tell their stories through cinema.
Camp Chippewa has been filmed and edited, but there are still many post-production steps necessary to complete the project. Re-shoots, a studio sound mix, soundtrack composition, color correction and publicity being the main expenses. We'll be doing all of that in Atlanta, Georgia, then we've got to get it out there: costs for festival submissions and shipping all of the materials necessary.
For "The Making of Camp Chippewa" we are shooting and editing behind-the-scenes footage which has practical expenses of its own—camera equipment, transportation, lighting, feeding the BTS crew, et cetera. then it's post-production—editing, studio sound design/mix, music, etc.
Then come our online tutorials. We'll need to pay for equipment rentals as well as the dedication of time that it takes to shoot and edit these things. After that, our tutorial page will have to be designed and assembled, until finally all of the videos are uploaded and access codes are sent out to all of our contributors.
With a bit of support from you guys, Sparklight Films will be able to continue expanding our capability to bring you exceptional movies of all kinds that push the limits of film and animation, and to inform and inspire enthusiastic and enterprising filmmakers and exceptional talent along the way.
Thank you again for checking out our campaign, and enjoy the movies.

Risks and challenges
Our main challenge is to finish production and make a fun & entertaining film. We have a fantastic cast and crew, many of whom have years of experience and are currently working as professionals in the entertainment industry. For most of us the main challenge has been to find the time and to raise enough money to finish the film right. Everyone involved has already committed to the additional dates needed to finish the film and with the generous assistance of our Kickstarter donors we will have the necessary funding. The talent and resources are just waiting for the means we need to complete the exceptional work we're already close close to finishing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
