OKAY IT'S OFFICIAL! **EVERYONE** who pledges, or has pledged, $1 to $10,000.00 (sorry to those who pledge above $10k!) get's a full digital version of the Jim Roll Children's Christmas Album. Those who have heard it will tell you more . . . but it's, well, it's . . .
...and to repeat visitors here's a couple new vertical videos in the rough hewn style of "I'm learning how to work this phone-camera!!" But they sound good and they are from a few days back!!
Anyway if this is your FIRST visit:
I would like your help to fund my first full length CD since "Inhabiting the Ball", recorded in 2001 and released in 2002.
You may ask "Jim, why do you need money to record songs when you own a recording studio?!" And that is a question I think is worth addressing. Essentially the answer is simple: I record records for my artists with the most personal attention, the best gear available, and for the cheapest price possible. Meaning that my profit margin is not a GET RICH ratio, heck, sometimes it's not even a GET NEW SHOES ratio. Don't get me wrong, I love it and it's doing well, but the studio needs to keep running to stay fiscally solvent.
So, your money will allow me to shut down for a month. Clear my mind. Study my demos, rehearse a band, and hone my songs. It will also provide me with the resources to pay an engineer to do the legwork so I can be a musician first and foremost for the duration of this record -- instead of being an engineer, teacher, or business owner.
In my dreams we would gather enough financial support here to make a record for the ages . . . to reproduce and promote the record . . . and to fund a tour. But that would take $20,000 plus! I can dream right?
So . . . I have demos and ideas which have been gathered over the last 10 years and it's almost like making a 1st record. That's a GOOD thing! Lots of songs to choose from, and pick the cream of the crop.
Well, you get the idea. I'd love to play for you, sing for you, write for you, mold sounds and worlds for you . . . and yeah I do it for myself too. Seems to work out for both of us though...
My favorite musical moment ever was getting an email from a young man in a war torn third world country -- who said my song '1955' was getting him through his days. It was then I decided I would never apologize for being a musician. So no apologies, just a proud request for your help!
