I am a writer and photographer in Nebraska. I'm also a mama raising three wild and loveable boys.
In April I had an essay printed in the New York Times Modern Love column:
I also contribute to the Huffington Post:
And I've been creating my own blog for the past three years titled Little Victories with Bub and Teebs:
Since my piece ran in the New York Times, I've had the privilege of working with the sweetest and most patient literary agent on my first book project. But, because in my heart I'm a poet, and because the market for poetry is much smaller than traditional book projects, I've decided to pursue self publishing for my first book. After I get the poetry out of my system, so to speak :), I hope to keep working with my agent on my second book, a memoir.
My book is a collection of raw and beautiful poetry and prose. I write about parenting, babies, life, death, and that residue within our souls that makes us who we are. The title The Moon Is Crooked comes from a poem inspired by a conversation with one of my kids.
As a stay at home mom, writing is my career. The funds for this project will go towards the time and effort of writing, compiling, editing, and creating. A large portion of the funds will go towards advertising.
My project is not far from completion. I have pages and pages of writing and poems that need edited and sorted. As a photographer, I also plan on incorporating photos into the writing to create a real work of art. My anticipation is that with another month or two of hard work my book will be complete.
Because of the Kickstarter all or nothing policy, I set my goal *relatively* low. But, of course, more is always better :)
More funds mean more advertising, more marketing, ultimately more sales, and more people nestling down into their favorite chair with a cup of coffee reading my book.
Take a moment to relax and read some of my writing and consider funding this dream of an artist mama in the Midwest :)
