About

In an environment that is slowly collapsing and the gravity spectrum has started to shift to the point where rock platforms have started to float around the molten core; robots known as the Gizma fight over the last remaining resources available. Welcome to the world of Collateral Damage: Battle Over Tyzanite, a devastating battlefield of robotic carnage.

$25,000 - Funding Goal

$50,000 - First dlc pack of 3 characters and 3 maps available for all

$75,000 - Second dlc pack of 3 characters and 3 maps available for all.

$125, 000 - Third dlc pack of 3 characters and 3 maps available for all

$150,000 - Single Player Story Mode, Additional Multiplayer Modes

???

The more money we receive, aside from the stretch goals listed, means more time we can put into the game itself hopefully meaning better quality assets, coding and networking for all. We will be putting everything towards making this the best possible game we can make.

Collateral Damage: Battle Over Tyzanite is a third person Hero Arena Brawler where players pick from various unique robots then use them to battle each other. Each character has a different personality and different array of abilities and attacks. Players fight over resources and try to destroy their opponents earning score for kills, assists and accomplishing other objectives.

Game-play is hyper fast and players must use their individual hero’s strengths to their advantage with fast decision making to earn score. Be careful though as the higher on the leader-board you are, the bigger the bounty on your head. The bigger the gap the faster your opponents earn their ultimate abilities.

Players can play single player online or as split screen, either online or offline, for fun intense party battles. Each online game can hold up to eight players for chaotic action.

The Gizma are a race of mechanical lifeforms with conscious thought with an intricate economy and society. The Gizma have semi-organic inner workings and high intelligence. The Gizma as a race are made up of a variety of cloned ‘models’ that while they share similarities in abilities and personality they may contain different desires and outlooks. Nine characters are planned for release.

Booomer: Booomer is both hyper aggressive and hyperactive. Booomer has no sense of hesitation nor restraint. Attacking and killing is all the Boomer model knows and does not care if the target is larger than themselves.

Oblex: Oblex is a powerhouse tank who fights whoever they want at their own discretion. Stunning and pulling enemies into a one vs one duel or knocking away anybody he cares naught to fight.

Thorn: Thorn is an elusive tactician that flies around the outskirts of battle filling their foes full of explosive spines. Thorn dislikes direct confrontation and prefers to kill the weak as they fight each other.

Lich: Lich is a cunning mastermind who commands minions to do their bidding. Lich would much rather stay out of combat and let their subordinates do all the work for them.

Marine: Marine is a heavy armoured tank skilled at controlling the landscape. Marine enjoys setting up traps for enemies to stumble into and blow themselves up on.

Ballista: Ballista is a trained weapon master skilled in all fields of combat. Ballista fights with an array of weaponry to take advantage of various situation.

Caliber: Caliber is tactical sniper who takes advantage of battles confusion. Caliber creates turrets to split enemy forces while using smoke and mortars to blanket the landscape as enemies scramble around.

Dozu: Dozu is a skilled sword wielder who finds honour in combat focusing on technique over raw power. Dozu challenges their enemies with swift sword slashes, stabs and dashes while tossing shurikens at those that turn their back to flee.

 Essen: Essen is a monster in disguise. Essen has a hard shell that is nigh impenetrable but when it reveals its true self and opens itself up it is a flurry of claws teeth and dark energy. The more they eat the stronger they become growing into a living nightmare.

The planet of Weldern was once a thriving world with various insectoid robots that scurried across the golden stones, scavenging the Tyzanite energy that flowed from the crystals blooming across the mineral based landscape. While some of the metallic lifeforms would consume any oil that leaked from the crystals the Gizma evolved and modified themselves to harvest and absorb the Tyzanite energy straight from the crystals themselves. The Gizma’s greed and consumption to improve themselves and their civilization lead to them draining the world of a large portion of this crucial energy that held the world together - resulting in its fractured state.

The world runs off the power of the crystals, they maintain every aspect of the ecosystem upon Weldern, from the floating islands to the smallest of micro-bots. These crystals are slowly being drained to death.

The colour pallet of Weldern is full of deep oranges and reds. The planet being one of minerals and metal is devoid of water and flora, this lack of oxidisation has resulted in the uniquely vibrant tones of the world and the deep purple atmosphere lacking in an ozone.

 With the world having begun shattering and falling apart the Gizma have started to fight among themselves. The civil war among the Gizma is divided amongst three factions, each with differing perspectives on the correct solution to ‘save’ their world and/or themselves . Each faction trying to use the very resource holding the world together in order to achieve their goal.

The Excavators
The Excavators aim to improve themselves and defeat the rest above all else. They believe that it is not the action of consuming the energy that is the problem but the quantity of that action. By reducing the population they believe they will remove the problem and the planet will have a chance to repair itself.

The Voyagers
The Voyagers recognise the existing energy source is finite, and want to use the current energy source as a provision for space exploration for finding alternative energy and habitats to sustain their race.

The Preservers
The Preservers goal is to try and acquire resources and use them in researching a means to restore the planet’s life force and hopefully regenerate the broken planet back to its original state or create a synthetic alternative to power their existence so the Tyzanite energy has time to regrow.

Who Are We:

Artisans Games is an independent game development company from Perth Australia. Matthew Sear and myself, Jak Gem, started Artisans Games after finishing our University Studies keen to develop a game and start a community. We played around a lot with different designs with different degrees of scope until we settled on the design of Collateral Damage: Battle Over Tyzanite. The two of us began work on the hovering robot arena brawler (see below for more details.) We were later joined by Chris in the pursuit to make the game as good as possible.

Matt Sear: Matt is our Lead Designer, 3D modeller and programmer.

Jak Gem: Jak is our secondary Designer, Animator and Writer.

Chris Head: Chris is our Sound Artist and Audio Developer.

Other contributors: Atop the three of us we have also had help from many friends and allies in the field that we would like to thank. Jacob has helped us significantly in network coding. Daniel has helped us with event footage and video jargon. Many a member of our community pages have helped us in modifying mechanics and giving feedback to improve the game to its current state. Last but not least all of you awesome people who help contribute to us so we can continuing to develop the game to our fullest.

Risks and challenges

Risks and Challenges

Meeting our goal - Why the amount we are asking

To begin with this is probably one of the most difficult aspects when it comes to crowdfunding. The figure itself is both a large sum of money and yet a small sum of money at the same time. We have been developing Collateral Damage for 21 months as of now and so far all expenditure has come out of our own pockets. We want to be completely transparent here starting with a cost breakdown in full.

Money Breakdown:
TAX = 27.5%
Kickstarter fees = 10%
Expenditure = 5%
Rewards = 5%
Unreal = 5%
Audio = 7.5%
Programming = 10%
Visual Assets = 30%

Taxes and Fees:
Several fees are a massive impact to the requested amount. Kickstarter itself takes 5% of successfully backed projects with up to a further 5% of payment processing equaling a total 10% of the asking amount. Atop this due to the fact we are using the standard free license of Unreal Engine, 5% of all gross revenue goes to Unreal. The biggest chunk however is the small business tax in Australia which is a flat 27.5%. That means of the $25,000AUD goal $10,625 of the amount goes straight to fees and tax meaning we don’t get a dime of almost half.

Wages:
Two of us work full time on the game while our third member is working part time, so far for 8 months. This is a total of roughly ~9500 hours at standard work times (although honestly probably a lot higher than this). At Australian minimum wage ($18.20AUD) this is a wage total of $172,900AUD as of this point. So yes we will be working for far below minimum wage but we are all just here for the desire to make fun games that players will hopefully enjoy and all we really need is a small amount to all keep going.

Rewards and why so few physical objects:
As of the above very little is set aside for rewards (5%) and there is only one real option for physical rewards. We thought about doing hardcopy art books and storybooks but we decided to have story and visual art open to view on our website, thus a hardcopy probably isn’t going to be all that appealing. We considered doing plushies of the characters but after factoring in costs of production, import costs and delivery costs it resulted in us needing to increase the asking goal; raising the price in order to offer incentives for giving money just does not make financial sense either us or for yourself as a backer. The cost of shipping from Australia is also not the cheapest and the reason there is only one option - so we can bundle it all together. It’s not to say we wouldn’t love to have cool physical things, it just isn’t cost efficient. So while in game rewards probably are not as cool, and actually require more work from us, we feel it’s much better than simply asking for more money from everyone.

Expenditure:
This last little section is all about business costs. In all honesty 5% doesn’t come close to covering the costs of the business however we are mostly setting this money aside more for attending events and growing the community. Setting up a booth at an event can cost $2000+ for a singular event. Why this matters leads onto the next challenge

The Challenges of an Online Game

While our game has a split screen offline mode that players may play among friends, the core experience is for large 8 player online matches. This has a few innate challenges and risks associated with it.

Community:
The biggest and most important challenge is building and maintaining a community for the game. For an online game to be playable it must have people playing the game. This means aside from trying to make the game as fun and enjoyable as possible we also need to advertise to more and more players to play the game and we need to keep existing players playing. There is a multitude of factors to this but the core is that we need as many people playing as possible and this will be the main expense for the business. This is a big reason why our stretch goals are all about adding additional content for every player who owns the game without extra in game costs. New and fresh content free for non-supporters will hopefully keep the community ever growing and ever returning. We hate the idea of paying for content as much as everyone else but the extra content is also an expense to every member of the team so we do not wish to lie and say DLC will always be free after purchase but would love if we could make it so.

Servers and Networking:
A big challenge for any online game is the difficulty of connection speeds. Players need to feel like the actions they perform not only have feedback but also yield results as they input them. Poor connection to a game can often ruin the enjoyment of a game. We are all gamers here and we all know the frustration of lag. We as developers need good servers, good optimisation and good network coding. Getting this right is not going to be easy.

The Risk of Unsuccessful Funding

If by the unfortunate circumstances we cannot meet our goal we as developers would like to give any of you who are keen to support the project the confidence that we will be continuing the project regardless what happens.

The Release Date

While August 2019 may seem far away for many, to us it is looming closer every day. We have had this date set in stone for a while now and we plan on releasing at this point (or potentially before) regardless the amount of funding we receive/don’t receive. The challenges to this is of course any unforeseen circumstances that may impact the release. We want to release at this point but what may come at a delay may be some of the in game rewards. This is not to say we will not be giving you your rewards simply that there may be delays on personal content in order to give you the primary product you have paid for by the time you expect it. Our aim is to make sure everyone gets everything on time but if we are to be honest we want to give the main deliverable to everyone as the highest priority.
