About

Fall of the Republic is a throwback to the classic RPGs that I grew up on and spent endless hours playing.  Back in a time when the storyline was an important aspect of the game that you couldn't get enough of.  While the game has only been in development for approximately 10 months, the storyline has been worked on and perfected over the past 3 years and I'm excited to bring it all to life for everyone's enjoyment.

You start off the game playing a mercenary who was contracted to perform a job for a powerful corporation in the Republic of Texas.  The job has gone south and you've barely escaped with your life thanks to a corporate spy that's been shadowing you.  It's a dangerous world in a time of political turmoil, do you have what it takes to survive?

Every player character has a detailed story of their own outside the main story line and a whole series of missions that will add to that story.  Your choices will have a serious impact on player characters (to the extent that your choices can permanently kill your party members). There are over 30 player characters throughout the game that you will encounter and have the chance to play and develop (but depending on the choices you make you may not get to play them all).

There are dozens of factions within the game and you get to choose your allegiances.  Will you side with what is left of the USA or the Republic of Texas (or any number of other new countries)?  Will you do work for corporations or fight against them?  What about the gangs and militias, will you assist them or eliminate them with extreme prejudice?  Or maybe you'll try to play all sides because the only side you're really on is your own?  The faction system will be intricate and your choices may permanently destroy any hope of being friendly with certain factions.

Party members should be chosen carefully as certain classes will be necessary if you wish to complete certain aspects of the game.   Hundreds of missions are class specific.  For example, a corporate espionage mission may require a party member to be a Techie for their hacking skills.  Or maybe it's a mission that requires a character knowledgeable in chemistry to cook something up.  And let's not forget those good old assassination jobs.

The current playable classes in the game are: Mercenary, Engineer, Doctor, Techie, Secret Agent, Assassin, and Politician.  I am open to adding more classes and skills for those classes if there is enough fan support to expand this current list.  Suggestions and other feedback would be most appreciated.

There is alcohol and drug use, prostitution and murder involved in this game.  Some of the graphics and content may be offensive to some people.  This game is not being created for children.  The experience will be intense and worth every second of the time you spend playing.

The game is currently only being developed for Microsoft Windows (PC).

An intricately woven story of war, love, sex, drugs, betrayal, murder, and survival. The story takes place in North America in the year 2020, two years after the secession of Texas and 24 other states from the United States of America. The civil war is over and the once great Republic is divided and in ruins. What was once a great nation is now 17 separate countries, each trying to pick up the pieces caused by the devastating war.

The most vital parts of infrastructure in North America were destroyed during the war and the luxuries once enjoyed are gone.  The newly formed countries have returned a semblance of law and order to limited parts of their territories, primarily in what's left of the major metropolitan areas.  Food shortages are abundant and thousands die of starvation every day.  Gangs, private militias, religious fanatics, and other groups have taken over most small towns and their surrounding areas.  People roam the land in small groups, doing whatever is necessary to survive. Corporations and their vast amounts of wealth have become extremely powerful and have hired highly trained mercenaries to protect their interests.

While the war of armies and declared aggression may be over, the war of espionage and sabotage has just begun.  Every country not just having to worry about aggression from foreign powers but also struggling to maintain control within their own borders.

An unforgettable adventure with a vast array of memorable characters.  In the fight for survival, what are you willing to do to survive?  What sacrifices will you make? How will this new world be influenced by your actions?

Ultimately, my goal is to allow every player the freedom to choose the battle system that brings them the most enjoyment.  I want everyone to be able to enjoy the story that is unfolding and being shaped by their choices in the way that best fits them.  For these reasons, the game contains the option of choosing between multiple battle systems:

1) The old school classic front view battle system:

 2) The side view animated battler system:

 3) And, as a stretch goal, a top-down tactical battle system will be implemented as a third choice.  It would be similar to the system used in Final Fantasy Tactics.

Concerning the above battle systems - an "action point" system will be used on all battle systems but has not yet been implemented.

Firearms in the game use multiple types of ammunition (Armor Piercing rounds, explosive rounds, chemical rounds, etc..).  Firearms may be modified in various ways to make them more accurate (laser sightings, scopes, etc...) or hold more ammo (extended clips), etc...

With the right materials and proper skills, various explosive devices can also be created in the game.

Additionally, a "targeted shot" targeting system (similar to that in the Fallout series) is in the process of being implemented into the battle system.  This is a system that I believe is vital to the battle system and adds a ton of enjoyment to game play.  Essentially, once you choose the target your character wishes to attack, a separate targeting screen will allow you to target specific body parts that you are aiming at, each with different "% chance of hitting" and "damage calculations".  I will add screens shots of the "targeted shot" system when I get the code for this section functioning properly.

The initial goal of $10,000 is the minimum I need to finish getting the game to where I believe it needs to be to provide you with an amazing experience.  But there is certainly much more that can be added to the game to make the experience even more enjoyable. That is why everything received beyond the initial funding goal will be used to add additional content and upgraded graphics to the game.

    BACKER & NON-BACKER INVOLVEMENT

Whether you decide to back the project or not, I strongly encourage you to make suggestions and provide feedback concerning this game because you really have a unique opportunity to heavily influence gameplay.  If suggestions/feedback from everyone suggests that there are certain features that I didn't originally plan on being part of the game that everyone wants to see as part of the game, I will add them to the stretch goals if they are within my capability to develop/implement (if they are pretty simple, I will try to just implement them without adding them to the stretch goals).   I really want to know what everyone thinks that I am missing and how everyone thinks that I can improve the overall experience for them.

Below are the first stretch goals.   More will be announced once everyone starts to submit feedback/suggestions concerning what they want to see as part of the game.

Risks and challenges

Because of my great passion for games, this whole process has been immensely rewarding and fun for me, but it's also been very challenging. It has been a massive creative undertaking involving endless hours of programming and writing and has really challenged my technical skills. But I've always wanted to create a great game for others to experience and enjoy and so my determination and perseverance keeps me moving forward.

It's also been a massive financial undertaking. And my biggest obstacle has been the artwork. There have been some amazing artists that have allowed me to use some of their work for this project at no cost, but a lot of the artwork I've had to commission. Given the huge number of different player characters, NPCs, movie scenes, locations, etc... involved in the game, it has cost quite a bit. The $10,000 in funding for this project is what is necessary to pay for the remaining commissions for the remaining graphics/artwork that are required to complete the game. So coming up with these funds is currently the biggest challenge.

There is always the chance that obstacles will come up that cause delays in development of the game but everyone be certain that I will work through those obstacles. I am devoting all of my time to the project so that I can ensure a timely release of this game and ensure that the game provides a unique and amazing experience for the community. I hope to hear suggestions/feedback from everyone and hope that you choose to support this project so that together we can give the gaming community something great.
