About

'And...' is a story development game for ages 8+ where the player or players, begin with a concept or even just a word in mind. Play then involves rolling a set of dice and by answering the selected question the original concept begins to evolve and a story magically emerges.

The game is unique in that its focus is specifically on developing creativity and right brain thinking. It can be thought of as a tool to aid in exploring the uniqueness of each player's imagination, where each question drives the story from within the player without any restrictions or inferred direction.

Dice are rolled to determine the categories of question, the questions within that category and also for some of the specific words within a question. Answers can be written down, drawn or expressed aloud.

The simplicity of the game and openness of the questions allow for one's individual creativity to open up and flow. The nature of the open questions, provide your child with open and unguided prompting to come up with their own answers - think of this as a kind of hand holding without putting words in their mouth.

When answering each question a new idea or component of the story will be generated, this answer then becomes the focus for the next question. In this way, the story or idea is continually flowing and emerging.

A standard game of 'And ...' generally lasts about 15-25 mins. However, as the game is open-ended the players can decide themselves how many questions to ask and change the length of the game to suit themselves.

We hope to offer a set of 52 cards to use as starting references in the game and to perform other functions during a game of 'And ...'.

This is still work in progress as we find the right artist and gain momentum with the project. These cards are expected to be priced at an additional £3 per pack. Watch this space!

Clicking this link will get you the latest instruction booklet from our Google Drive site, you can also register for free at our website www.gameofstories.com to write stories using the game structure via an interactive interface (this is still a work in progress.)

A link to the download files for the board and dice stickers will be sent out to all backers at the end of the campaign.

We are fully open to feedback and would love your input to help create the best game we can - stimulating creativity and bringing our families together is our ultimate goal - as well as discovering the amazing stories we all have within us.

'And ...' has been developed from the work of David Grove, the creator of Clean Language which is a technique that is used especially in psychotherapy and coaching. Clean Language helps clients to discover and develop symbols and metaphors without being influenced by the phrasing of a question.

Matthew, the creator, is trained in the theory and application of Clean Language, an avid board gamer and father to two wonderfully creative children. Several years ago he began to develop a way to bring the core elements of Clean Language into the realms of storytelling through the medium of a boardgame.

We are very happy to announce that 'And ...' is the result of his work after many years of development.

Risks and challenges

The publication of a board game is a complicated process. It is prone to many mistakes and that does not exclude experienced publishers.

Here are the steps we are taking to prepare and reduce the likelihood of mistakes and delays:

1. We have done significant pre-production. This includes having all the art for the game near completion. The production quote is in hand and ready to be initiated.

2. We are proud to be working with the Royal Mail and myHermes here in the UK and will commit to other fulfilment centres for professional distribution worldwide.

Again, this isn't to say that this project won't experience mistakes, they happen to everyone but we are as prepared as we can be at this stage and will do everything we can to bring this to completion.

Above all, we are dedicated to 100% backer communication. We will be transparent with our process and involve our backers as much as possible.

We will be present daily to answer any questions or read any comments and we will provide regular updates and supply photos of the progress when possible.
