Update: New stretch goal!
After 80 backers from 3 different countries brought Giventure to life in just 6 days, we wanted to do more to show you our appreciation. If we can reach our new stretch goal of $20,000, we will implement calendar integration into the first version that goes out to you all. We're already 63% of the way there!
You don’t need to buy a plane ticket to change the world.
There are people who need help in your own community. Get connected to the issues in your own backyard, and start making a difference wherever you are.
Think global, act local. You may not be able to end hunger worldwide, but you can help feed the people who live in your own city. The problem is... where do you start?
Meet Giventure, your personal assistant for volunteering.
Giventure is there for you when you want to be there for your favorite causes. Get personalized recommendations for volunteer opportunities in your area based on your skills and interests, and sign up with just one tap of a button. Giventure takes the stress away from trying to find volunteer opportunities so that you're left with a simple and easy way to connect with the causes you care about.
How can Giventure help you?
No more long applications. Use the built-in search filters to find instant sign-up opportunities, and save your spot with just one click.
Volunteer anywhere, anytime. Free for a couple hours? Open up the app to see the organizations hosting events in your own area at this exact moment.
Get customized recommendations. Giventure is your personal assistant for volunteering. Using your interests on Facebook and your skills on LinkedIn, Giventure tailors your volunteer experience to suit your abilities and your passions.
Birds of a feather flock together. Get connected with other socially conscious members of your community. Find friends who share your vision, and make the world a better place together.
Rethink social good. There’s so much more to volunteering than just picking up trash (though that’s important, too!). Find unique ways to contribute your skills to a local organization. Marketers can revamp an organization’s awareness campaign, lawyers can provide legal support for victims of domestic violence, and scientists can inspire young students to start their own community projects.
Who is behind Giventure?
My name is Sneha Jayaprakash. I am a Computer Science undergrad at UC San Diego, and I love volunteering. Volunteering has introduced me to new friends, taught me valuable career skills, and, most importantly, made me feel happier and more connected to my community. Along with my co-founder, best friend, and roommate, Winnie Xu, I lead a team of 12 students who believe that everyone has the power to change the world.
We all love getting involved in our communities and creating a lasting positive impact, but we don’t love the preparation. You know what we’re talking about. Scrolling through endless lists of online searches. Filling out the same sign-up form again and again. Waiting for days to hear back with a confirmation. That’s why we built Giventure. Our team has developers, designers, and marketers, all of whom have dedicated every spare minute to creating this platform for volunteers and nonprofit organizations to come together.
We began working on Giventure three years ago, and it’s been quite a journey. We started out by literally standing in the middle of the street, stopping random strangers, and interviewing them about their volunteer habits so that we could learn more and build a platform that suits everyone’s needs. We’ve gone through multiple rounds of testing with actual volunteers and nonprofit organizations.
We may be young, but we’ve been lucky to have the wonderful support of Microsoft, UC San Diego, the Center for Peace and Commerce, and many others. Just take a look at some of the articles we’ve been featured in by the Times of San Diego, University of California, Microsoft Challenge for Change, Huffington Post, and more.
Where does the money go?
After three long years of research and design, we have a real working prototype that we think every volunteer will love. Now we need your help to finish developing the platform and push it out to the world.
Development time. We want to dedicate our time to working on Giventure. Your contribution will help us keep our promise to deliver the platform to you on time.
Infrastructure costs. We need to be able to host the platform and all of our data to provide you with a fast, seamless experience. Your funding will help us cover the cost of our servers and website hosting.
Application features. Some of these features require expensive plug-ins and external services. The text message capability and the recommendation engine, for example, are crucial to the volunteer experience, but we need funding to cover the cost of implementation and integration.

Risiken und Herausforderungen
Just like with any other software platform, our biggest challenge is shipping Giventure on time. While we have spent years preparing for the launch, there is no guarantee that we won’t face unexpected technical obstacles. Our promise to you is that we will always keep you updated about our current progress.
