A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
Stow Fitness has been working hard to solve this problem...and we are proud to say that we have done it! Most modern fitness equipment has a "space savings" element to it, whether it is designed to go in the corner or slide up against a wall, they just don't meet the expectations. The equipment ends up being an eye sore in a room, shoved in a room that you really didn't want to work out in, or simply not purchased due to the size of a home or apartment. Stow Fitness furniture is able to say that the fitness equipment does not take up any space when stowed away in the chair. If you have room for a chair....you now have room for full size exercise equipment!

Super easy!! Both the Spin Bike and the Weight Bench are designed to be unfolded and in use in under 30 seconds. Both of the products use the same door front and lever to release the mechanism holding in the fitness equipment. After these two steps, the weight bench unfolds completely in two steps while the spin bike unfolds in four. These steps are designed to be intuitive, simple, and quick for any user. Please watch the video and feel free to ask any questions.
The chair was designed to essentially replace or compliment your existing furniture. Not all chairs are created equal, but the Stow Fitness Chair will be similar in size to a large recliner or other chair you may have. The actual dimensions of the chair without the fitness equipment deployed is approximately 46" wide x 38" deep
Each of our Chair rewards can be given as a Christmas Present! Just pick the reward you want, print our Christmas Download off of stowfitness.com, and place it in a card in the tree! Make Stow Fitness a great gift this Holiday Season!
Back in 2013, I had grown annoyed with the fitness equipment that had started gathering in our living room. Our family was growing with our soon to come 3rd child, and what was once a combination fitness room and guest room had now become my daughters room. Fortunately for us, we had a basement to move our fitness equipment to. Even though we had an option, going down to the old basement while the rest of the family was upstairs was not always a great option. So with that, many of our weights, yoga mats, exercise ball, and other small pieces of equipment had started to collect in our living room. It became an eye sore and I decided that there had to be a better solution.
The project didn't get off the ground immediately, but the thought of solving the space issue for people like myself and those with even smaller spaces stayed on my mind, until I finally started addressing it.
I was fortunate that I was consulting with many different manufacturing companies and had access to resources that could help me start to work on some proof of concept prototypes. Throughout 2014, I worked on refining my concept and the prototypes. Engaging engineering resources to help me with concept development and research. Eventually, I felt confident enough that this was a product that solved a real problem, that many people want would want it, and that needed to come to market!
In 2015, we increased the resources and started full development of the product. Working diligently to solve the problem in the most simple way possible to provide a great experience for the end user. This included many different designs for unfolding the product, stowing the product, and how simple the engagement could be with the end user.
By mid 2016, we were able to develop 2 high quality pieces of fitness equipment that meet all the original design criteria within a common platform for the furniture to be designed around.
The furniture design and development started with many visual concepts before we finally settled on the final design. We were able to quickly get the look and comfort level desired after a few different prototypes to provide the final Stow Fitness product line that we are offering today.

Risks and challenges
Our expanded team has been working in the furniture and manufacturing industry for over 25 years with some of the most renown commercial and residential furniture companies. We have also teamed up with skilled suppliers to bring the technical fitness equipment knowledge necessary to compliment the product line. Even though we have an extremely skilled team and supply base, there are still always risks and challenges that can occur.
We have minimized the risk through multiple prototypes and functional testing at each stage of the process. There are still minimal adjustments that need to be engineered into the final product which create a risk that we will manage through.
Manufacturing Risk -
The majority of our experience is in the engineering and manufacturing of consumer goods. With that, we know that when scaling to mass production, we will need to be extremely diligent to make sure that we create processes that build the best product possible to deliver to our backers.
Lead-time Risk -
We have worked with our suppliers and engineers to predict the schedule from funding to delivery for each of the individual rewards. We have included time for final engineering, Final Testing, Tooling build, and process verification. These are all areas where delays are possible, but the team is dedicated to drive a high quality product to delivery on time for our backers and will do everything necessary to do so.
We have designed our campaign based on the current capability and capacities for us and our supply base. We have had many discussions and planning sessions to try and predict the anticipated demand and have adjusted our rewards accordingly. If demand were to be much greater than anticipated, processes may need to be adjusted to handle the unexpected demand. This would be a “good problem” to have and we do not believe it would create any delays, but we would need to adjust our current plans for tooling and processes to accommodate.
Overall, we expect some same hiccups along the way, but we have been in the manufacturing environment for many years and have the capability to handle these bumps in the road as they come.
Please support us and have your place in line held with $1399 pricing! We will develop our distribution so we can start delivering internationally after domestic orders are fulfilled. This pricing does not include any taxes, fees, and shipping to international destinations.
We will contact you soon after the campaign to start working on your order.
