Inexistence was strongly inspired by video game classics such as Castlevania, Ghost and Goblins and Mario. The game essentially consists of a 2d platformer with intense gameplay, lots of action and many levels.  
           

The goal of this project is to recreate the gaming experience of older games, being mainly inspired by Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Mario World and Final Fantasy 4. The game is being developed with Clickteam Fusion 2.5 and will be available on Windows and Android while hopefully being eventually ported on the WII U, the 3ds eshop and the PS Store.

On a quest to rescue his kidnapped sister, Hald, the protagonist of the game, will need to explore various environments which will require adaptation from the player. Each zone has a great number of secrets and mysteries, keep your eyes peeled!

A platformer RPG wouldn’t be complete without some RPG elements! Hald will gain experience levels as he progresses through the story and it’s up to the player to manage the attribute points granted with each level. It is up to each player to tailor Hald to suit his preferences.

Hald can vainquish his foes by killing them with this blade or by using various magical spells at the cost of Mana which will regenerate itself over time. Every enemy has its own pattern and might require a different approach. Physical attacks and magical ones both damage enemies differently, it is up to the player to specialize in one branch or to try to balance both types of attacks.

Money is collected throughout the game and can (should!) be used to purchase various items and abilities from various NPCs. Make sure to talk to all of them, they have a lot to offer Hald on his quest to rescue his sister.

Thanks to the animation skills of Etienne Zizka, Inexistence boasts all sorts of fluid movement increasing the immersion of the game. 

The game in its actual state will allow player to get a general feel of the game but keep in mind that Inexistence is being worked on daily basis and still many improvements are in the works and will eventually be implemented. We also try to keep communicating with the fans in order to implement what they’d like to see in the game.

The game’s original soundtrack has been composed by Fawzi Allouache, experienced with creating music for various independent games, each song reflecting the mood of the areas Hald will be exploring. Enjoy this little sample of his musical creations:

Jonathan is a keen jack-of-all-trades. He has a passion for video games and graphic design since his early age. He’s been involved in the independent gaming crowd for many years now. He recently decided to focus extensively on his passion in order to create his very first complete video games.

The wise man of the project, his input helps to keep things into perspective and remain down to earth. He is also responsible for bringing the game into English as well as animating the various sprites in the game.

Our latest recruit! His various illustrations has further improved the aesthetics of the game as well as providing various concept art for the game.

Last October, the team was invited to the Video Game Exposition in Paris in order to introduce Inexistence to the French gaming community. Although the team was nervous to share its embryo  a game, the reception was positive and further galvanised the team members to turn Inexistence into a game to be reckoned with. This experience was also our first time communicating with the public about their impressions and opinions about the game, many changes consequently took place after the event

We were also promoted by jeuxvideo.com, a reference in the French gaming community. This was very enlightening as it allowed a younger audience to voice their opinions about the game which turned out to be valuable feedback. The feedback we gathered was majorly positive, the game being downloaded 1,500 times in less than 24 hours. We’re striving to keep a good relationship with the players and are grateful for their efforts to share the game throughout various medias such as youtube or facebook. 

Developing a video game is a great creative experience. This being said, all the ambition of the world is, at times, stopped short without external support, such is the way things work.

Working on a game without any sponsors doesn’t provide any income and developing the actual game actually involves various expenses, such as investing money for promotional material and purchasing licenses for the various software used in making Inexistence. Successfully funding Inexistence would be a blessing as it would allow:

-To have a source of income and allow us to work full time on the project.

-To pay the various contributors on the game be it for the translation, the music, the art, etc…

-To push the boundaries we currently have to struggle with include more levels in the game as well as a multiplayer mode, new animations and NPCs, new monsters, new gameplay mechanics, etc…

-Actually selling a game is not free of charge as it involves administrative and legal fees.


Risks and challenges

Nothing can dampen our enthusiam to release Inexistence as a full game for the rest of the world to enjoy.
This project is the culmination of years to make Inexistence part of our reality (no pun intented).
The foundation of the game is already set and a good portion of the game is already completed.
The team is determined to wrap the project up and only requires some extra funding to wrap things up and hopefully, should we reach an amount beyond our initial objective, expand and improve and really push the limits of what the game could be.
The objective of the financial initiative is to not only to finish and polish Inexistence but also to share it with as many people as possible by exporting it to various ports as well as add content and most importantly, to free ourselves of financial obligations in order to invest more time
working on it.
