HANNAH is, in short, a celebration of Black women. The goal of HANNAH is to highlight our diversity and provide a space where we can simply BE.
HANNAH will add important voices to the ongoing narrative about Black women—our own.
HANNAH will exist as an aesthetically brilliant, content-heavy biannual print release as well as a more frequently updated digital space.
HANNAH's content will cover everything from beauty and fashion to sociopolitical issues and tech.
(Please note: The following is only a mockup sample of the book. These images are not of the actual inaugural issue and are solely meant to showcase the print book's aesthetic. Credits for the photos used within the mockup appear at the end of our video. We claim no rights to the photos past permission given for mockup usage.)
Earlier this year, we shared a content preview on our site hannahmag.com. The feedback and support has already been incredible and encouraging. We are looking forward to the next phase of bringing HANNAH to the people!
Some pages from HANNAHMAG.COM:
WHERE THE FUNDS RAISED FROM THIS CAMPAIGN WILL GO:
We are proud of the wonderful content we plan to bring to you. A lot goes into the creation of that content. And while costs for equipment, venues, travel and the like are super important, it is equally important to us that each and every person who contributes some magic to HANNAH receives compensation for doing so.
Printers are anything but cheap; the better the quality, the higher the rates. We want to ensure that HANNAH is at her best. Paper stock, binding, coloring.... It all adds up.
HANNAH isn't your average mag. She will be thick with content and durable. She will withstand frequent transport and handsomely add to your archives. All of this means shipping costs will be more than they usually are for a mag. Think "coffee table book," then donate because that just made you so happy!
REWARD PRODUCTION + SHIPPING:
We've put together some amazing rewards for your generous pledges. (The pledge rewards are in the column to the right. They are named after our lovely HANNAHMuses who are listed in age order.) This cost covers the fees attached to creating them and getting them to you.
We want to celebrate with you once we've cleared our first issue. You're everything to us! Our launch party will be our moment to shine together.
We've factored in the 5% fee and payment processing fees (between 3% and 5%) that go to this lovely platform when we are successfully funded.
Risks and challenges
HANNAH is still in her infant stage. We are nowhere close to where we hope to take her. That being said, we've created all that we have so far (our six weeks of content; our growing social media following; our family/team) with nothing. No budget. No fancy studios. No celeb photogs.
We are confident that with an actual budget we can do so so so much more. Hiccups happen in publishing, but our policy is that our readers and supporters come first. You will know if something happens that might delay you getting your rewards the second after we do.
Our EIC, Qimmah Saafir was able to self-publish a children's book called "Charlie and His Imaginary Friend" (psnqs.com) through a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign. She knows the importance of constant communication and transparency when it comes to crowdfunding. Our plan is to try to anticipate the hiccups as much as we can. If it's beyond our control, we will work hard to put the fire out while it's still a small flame.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
