HELLO THIS IS THE FUND COLLECTOR FOR MY FORTHCOMING BOOK
IF YOU ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH ME I AM A RAVING SKELETON ANd-- *cough cough*
Okay that is actually really hard to do. Hi Kickstarter, I'm Dane Asmund, the head of Seven Thirteen (7!13) Books. I'm partnering up with the Caretaker, a skeleton who holds ancient and sometimes ridiculous knowledge on life, the stars (especially the stars), and the esoteric arts, to release a book of some of the best knowledge they have shared from their first 6 months of posts.
If you haven't heard of the Caretaker, they run Normal Horoscopes, a blog dedicated to delivering incredibly normal and not-at-all strange horoscopes, as well as all sorts of interesting responses to offerings and questions from followers. They also have an exciting tarot contest right now, which you can check out here.
So what is this book?
Delving to their first post from 2016 up to early 2017, I have collected the best of the best for inclusion in the book. This includes Normal Horoscopes, #screaming posts, asks, and responses to offerings, a written forward from myself, and we may also include a few completely new ones so that even people who follow the blog religiously (or cultishly!) can find new gems.
The book will be presented in a 6"x9" format, which I believe matches well to the presented material. It will also feature some great new art from Sam (Charmingly Antiquated) for the cover as well as a large number of fantastic interior illustrations and sketches. She has illustrated some of their horoscopes in the past, and will be a perfect fit.
So what do we need the Kickstarter funds for?
As fun as this all is (and it is fun!), the goal of creating a physical copy of this work for you to have is to also make a little bit of money! A fair portion of it will be going to Sam for her work on illustrations for the book, the cover(s) especially, and then the rest will go towards paying for the work that I did as editor, layout person, and publisher, and it will also go to the Caretaker themself, for providing all the awesome resource materials for the book.
What if we raise more money?
That's where we offer stretch goals! Right now, the funds of the book will be a fairly even split, with about half of the funds going towards shipping and printing books for all of you backers, and then the rest going to Sam first, then the Caretaker, then myself.
Money raised beyond this can unlock some awesome stuff!
At $7,000, we will unlock the next book, covering most of 2017s posts in the same fashion as this book. Each book will cover about 6 months of the Caretaker's work, with the goal of catching up to the current day's postings after about 4 books. Once unlocked, backers will be able to increase their pledge to add on the second book to their rewards. Add-on price and other information will be shared when we reach this stretch goal.
At $13,000, we will unlock the third book in the series, covering the end of 2017 into early 2018. As with the earlier book, it will be available as an add-on.
At $18,000, we will unlock the fourth book in the series, covering early 2018 to today.
At $25,000, we will unlock an even stranger tome. Keep an eye here for if we break this goal for more details.
Okay, so there's a skeleton... an artist... so who are you?
Hi! I'm Dane Asmund, and I come from my own long journey of work. I'm putting out my 18th book this October (yep, this month!). I'm a novelist, a poet, a collagist, and a designer of table-top roleplaying games. I also recently made a little video game, and I'm loving the experience. I've got a fair amount of experience creating work of all kinds, and I'm acting as the vehicle between the Caretaker's raw talent and content and a finished product you can all support and have!
Thanks for checking the Kickstarter out! We hope to see your support, and may the wise Caretaker offer you some useful advice. Or vague and mysterious. Or just rude.
I mean, you're the ones going to them for it, that's your funeral.
Risks and challenges
There are no risks involved. All of the content already exists, and I'm just processing and editing it into the book. Because our artist won't be ready for taking on the work for a little bit still, we have lots of time to finalize the insides of the book prior to the projected release date. We are very likely to release early, rather than late, so no big concerns or challenges.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
