About this project
Temper Tantrum Racing is a Canadian Air Racing Team, based on the East Coast New Brunswick. Currently we have our sights set for the Formula 1 Division in the Reno Air Races in September 2016. The team is currently headed by me Mark McIntyre, who is the main builder, pilot, mechanic, and have recruited 2 other mechanics for the build and pit crew. I have been professionally employed as an aircraft mechanic for nearly 20 yrs., with experience in a broad range of aviation, from bush float/ski equipped aircraft, small commuter/cargo aircraft, and various corporate aircraft. This history provides me with the experience, expertise and drive to build & fly a highly competitive aircraft!
My teams’ goal is to be ready for the 2016 season, with our sights set high! Formula 1 Air Racing is demanding, fast, and will test both pilot and machine! The aircraft design is stressed to +/- 8G’s; making it capable of performing aerobatics. Once Phase I testing has been completed and we have our wings under us, and the aircraft had been proven to meet design specifications, I plan to maneuver our way into aerobatics competitions as well. When not competing in Formula 1 Racing, the aircraft will be entered into 2-3 semi-local Aerobatic Competitions in the Sportsman class. This will help us hit the flying hours required for certification & will maximize the exposure of the aircraft for top level pledges.
My Team’s website, like our plane is currently under construction, all backers and pledgers will be emailed this website upon completion. This will be one of the many ways Temper Tantrum Racing will be keeping everybody up to speed with our progress. It will be loaded with status updates; pictures, flight footage, and ground run footage & will capture all the fun we are having, as well as any pitfalls, or obstacles that may arise during this project. Social media in conjunction with our website will play a vital role in launching our Kickstarter campaign.

Risks and challenges
The first challenge we face is literally building the aircraft, while maintaining a constant balance of speed and safety. After we landed on a proven design, we came to realize there is a new challenge; a portion of the design requires us to work with aircraft quality Sitka spruce wood, a material we do not have first-hand experience with. With keen eyes, a strong knowledge base, & skilled hands, the team can craft this aircraft into a piece of art!
Formula One Class presents a unique challenge all in itself and that is in the engine… Formula One Rules limit the amount of modification allowed to the engine in that all parts must remain stock & that presents challenges when it comes to creating speed. With that in mind, there are many different ways to get more horsepower as well as longevity out of the engine. After extensive research, we have come up with a unique setup that will increase the engine’s reliability during the "heat of battle" while boosting our horse power, making ever second count. The other benefit is we have chosen a plane design that Team Temper Tantrum has the experience and expertise to build, maintain & race!
The final true challenge we face to be flying for 2016 season is the cost to build the plane. We have been able to minimize the labor cost through my experience as an Aircraft Mechanic & have also been able to do most of the ground work myself for a proven and worthy design. The money required to purchase the building materials to fulfill the design is what we hope to raise with the help of supporters through Kick Starter. With the help of pledges we will also be able to overcome this financial challenge, thrusting us into the 2016 season & beyond!
