MCSI: Magical Crime Scene Investigation
The Concept: Urban Fantasy Meets CSI
Cold cases, cold coffee, rushing into situations other people run from - being a cop is tough. But it gets even tougher when the particulars of the case don’t match up with the way the world is supposed to be. But some investigators take these paranormal speed bumps in stride. Your murder suspect is a dragon? Bring it on. Your evidence comes from a conference with the spirit world? No problem. Your kidnapping suspect is an undead creature sprung from Old World folklore? Okay, that might take the fortification of an extra cup of coffee and some back up.
We have 18 urban fantasy stories about solving the case with a little magical help ready for your curious mind. Come along for the ride and enjoy the thrills of investigation. Remember, Quod Sequitor - Follow the Evidence.

All backers will have our gratitude for their support added to the back of the anthology.
We are planning on producing several different versions of MCSI for your reading pleasure.
The first is electronic, also known as an ebook. While many ebooks are produced with DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection to prevent piracy, we believe that we can trust you. DRM can cause hassles and we want our readers to have a hassle-free experience. You can choose between the three major formats: .mobi for Kindle, epub which most other ereaders use, and .pdf for everybody else. DRM Free does not however mean Copyright free.
The second version is trade paperback. This format is approximately 9 inches by 5 inches. It is the larger standard paperback format with nice paper.
Thirdly, we will offer a limited number of books in hardback format. This will include a dust jacket with cover art similar to the paperback copy.
Finally we are offering pairs of custom dice with the MCSI badge logo.
$1500 - Funded!
$2000 - a new story from one of our authors in ebook format
$2500 - new addon (TBA)
$3000 - another story from one of our authors in ebook format
$3500 - ???
$4000 - ???
If you are interested in adding something to your pledge, just increase the amount pledged. To do this, select <Manage Your Pledge> on the main MCSI page, then select <Change Your Pledge> and add the total amount of the addons to the Amount Pledged box. I will send out a survey at the end of the campaign so you can tell me which addons you want.
EDIT: I found a small stash of EOM dice and Otter dice. I will update the above matrix.
We will be offering two additional books from Otter Libris as addons.
The first is a short story collection of dark urban fantasy stories, Charmed City: 13 Tales of the Peculiar and Obscure in Baltimore. The author, Michelle D. Sonnier, is one of the contributors to MCSI.
The second is a multi-author collection of original Cthulhu Mythos with diverse protagonists, EOM: Equal Opportunity Madness.
You can also add a pair or more of one of our three types of dice.
Risks and challenges
We already have the stories and our editors are finishing the layout right now. Our cover art is complete, and our cover designer is ready to lay it out. The only part we don't have is the final count of print copies to order. We are planning to print in the U.S. Our greatest risks are mistakes that might cause us delay from the printer or from the postal service.
Requirements creep. Keeping on schedule. We plan on doing the order fulfillment in house, and we have experience with previous publications that will help us. However, if we are wildly successful in this Kickstarter, we may experience delays but we will work very hard to keep to the schedule that we have set. If it looks like add-ons or stretch goals could delay us, we will ship the main rewards separately as soon as they are ready. We are of course at the whim of the printer, the internet, and the postal system, but we will work hard to beat our deadlines. We will also strive to provide bi-weekly updates.
Otter Libris has no other active projects at this point. Our complete focus will be on this project until it is completed and fulfilled. We pledge not to start any new projects until this one is put to bed.
