(07/04/14) UPDATE # 1 - Thanks And Contingencies
FAT BEETS - スーパーリズム野菜 (Super Rhythm Vegetables) is a rhythm/puzzle game that takes the colored note mechanics of music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band with the tile matching mechanics of puzzle games like Bejeweled and Tetris and wraps it up in a retro-Japanese console game aesthetic and all original chip-tune soundtrack.
It's currently being developed for Windows PC and Android, with the goal of being released in early September. But, with your help it may also be released on Mac, iOS, Linux, and Windows 8 Mobile.
The short answer - you want to hit the beet on the beat of the same color.
The long answer - FAT BEETS plays like most modern music games in that when the colored note comes up, you want to tap a beet of that color. But, unlike most games this isn't as simple as just pressing a button. The larger a cluster of beets you tap the more points you get, but beets are always moving and clearing out as you tap them. The goal is to keep your streak bonus multiplier up while getting the largest combos you can to get the highest score.
The better a score you get the more coins you earn letting you buy more songs or power-ups that can either make the game more forgiving for new players or help get more points for more experienced players.
There are also a few special beets like the titular Fat Beets that explodes and will chain into other colors, the Dope Beet that doubles the points of the combo, and the Rainbow Beet that will behave differently depending on what color note is up.
Broadly, the money is going to give me the time and resources to work on the game full time. Specifically, it's going toward:
- the legal fees of officially incorporating
- the costs of getting into digital distribution services like Steam Greenlight and Google Play
- getting the hardware and licensing to release FAT BEETS onto more platforms
- manufacturing and shipping the physical copies of the game
- and promoting the game at gaming festivals and online
While $10,000 will be just enough to get FAT BEETS onto Windows and Android, but only just.
- At $10,000, FAT BEETS is funded and will be coming out for Windows and Android!
- At $15,000, FAT BEETS will be released for Mac and iOS!
- At $20,000, FAT BEETS will be released for Windows 8 Mobile and Linux PC!
- At $25,000... I don't know yet! Stay tuned!

Only with your help can we make FAT BEETS the best game possible and make it available on as many platforms as possible!
Risks and challenges
Having spent the last 7 months working on FAT BEETS, I'm fairly confident that I can get the game out on Windows and Android with out problems, but I do have 2 major concerns.
The first is porting the game to more platforms. I've been working with GameMaker Studio which so far has made porting pretty easy and straight forward, but I haven't yet even made the attempt at working on other PC OSs or mobile platforms.
The second is manufacturing and shipping the physical copies. I've shopped around to account for the costs in my budget, but I'm given to understand that the actual process of getting all the copies out can be a bit of a headache.
The answer to both concerns is that I'm addressing both as early as possible and at worst there may be some slight delays for the versions of FAT BEETS for other platforms and the physical copies.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
