Welcome to Proceed, a 2D Action game with a focus on combat, survival and exploration, set across a procedurally generated universe. Proceed is a single player experience, you play as an Artificial Intelligence named Prox-E, built to find a new home for humanity.
In a period of rapid growth and dwindling natural resources, you alone are the last hope for the future of humanity. Planet Earth's population is running out of time. You will save the human race from disaster. You will find us a new home.
Along your journey you must seek out planets capable of sustaining life. However, such planets are rare and this universe is far more hostile than anyone realised.
To complete your task, you will build and control a range of Androids, Including a Mech, Rover and Drone. More on these below!
- An Infinite universe, just for you: Filled with bizarre and terrifying creatures, deadly enemy AIs and challenging environments.
- Defeat powerful foes: In your search for a suitable home planet, you will encounter AI's older and far more powerful than yourself. These hive minds will take time, skill and resources to destroy.
- A focus on upgrades: start out frustratingly vulnerable and upgrade using a vast array of technologies, each having a dramatic effect on gameplay.
- Day/Night cycles and dynamic weather patterns: Deadly weather types will test your Mech's upgrades and your reflexes.
- Form an exploration strategy with a variety of upgradable droids: The balanced Mech, the heavy duty rover tank or the nimble drone. (More on this below)
Windows Tech Demo:
The demo is currently working best for Keyboard & Mouse, however controllers are supported and this will be updated in the coming days.
PROCEED is still deep in development, however, it's development will be a transparent process. You will get to see the beauty of PROCEED and it's development challenges. PROCEED has a long way to go and your feedback is seriously valued.

Proceed has two main aspects to it's gameplay.
Explore, survive and thrive. Use your AI's hive mind and robotic drones to bound across a procedural universe, in search of essential resources, and new technologies. Survive and thrive in a variety of friendly and hostile environments.
Find us a new home. The primary objectives of Prox-E is to prevent the extinction of the human population of earth. Planet Earth is dying, and a new home is humanity's only hope to survive.
A galaxy interface will allow you to search for and warp to solar systems across the endless universe. However, doing so will cost precious resources, meaning each expedition comes with its own risk.
Choose your droid and load-outs carefully before plummeting to a hostile planet. Choose from:
A balanced class. Jet propulsion must be heavily upgraded for maximum maneuverability. At higher levels, fully sustained flight is possible, as is blasting into space at any moment.
New Mech Skeletons will be added in the coming months. These will allow more drastic changes to your Mech class, changing the weight, movement speed and aesthetics of the player.
The tank class; heavily armored with lower maneuverability, featuring a maximum of four weapon slots.
The recon class; lightweight, nimble and armed. The drone can infiltrate areas that Mech's and Rovers cannot. At lower levels drones are dangerously weak. Upgrade Types:
The Hive Ship
For all your activity on a planet, you must have a base of operations. This is where your Hive ship fits in. It carries equipment and drones across the vast emptiness of space to your chosen solar system.
It too, is upgradeable, allowing Prox-E to perform an ever growing range of abilities and to more effectively scan planets before exploration.
Visiting new, unexplored planets is at the heart of PROCEED. From the outset your range of travel is limited to the star systems neighboring your own. Gradually, through technological breakthroughs; you will be capable of warping farther from earth into deep space in search of crucial new resources and powerful weapons.
From your mission control panel in your Hive Ship, search for and scan planets to choose your target. Warping to planets costs precious resources. Running out of fuel on a hostile planet will force the player to fight to gather new fuel and escape.
Bizarre Creatures and Deadly Hive Minds:
At its core, PROCEED is a fast paced combat game. Using a wide variety of ever more powerful weaponry, you will face creatures of all shapes and sizes, and other AI's which are also vying for the limited and precious resources planets have to offer.
Enemies in PROCEED are generated from a number of various categories, such as 'Small Drone', 'Hive Mind' or "Alien Queen Type 4". Each enemy within a category is randomized from a library of hand painted artwork and given random stats, weaponry and abilities.
This is currently a work in progress, by the game's release date, a large library of enemy types and thousands of hours of artwork will be created for this procedural system.
Planets in PROCEED's universe are teeming with flora and fauna. The latter are often determined to protect their territories and may be highly aggressive. Creatures in proceed are procedurally generated in a wide array of categories. They are equipped with a variety of melee and ranged attacks to destroy even the Intelligence of Prox-E.
You are not alone in this universe. You are not unique. More than one species has succumbed to vices of civilisation and have long since built their own Artificial Intelligence. Each of these AIs are imbued with the goals of it's creator. Some are more combat ready and offensive than others.
Blast Into Space at Any Moment:
At any moment (given the required upgrades) you may break out of the planets atmosphere and explore another world in the weightlessness of space.
Each planet is not only full of life and dangers on the surface. Space too is a dangerous frontier, proceed at your own risk.
This is in early stages of development and can be briefly tested in the Tech Demo which you can try right now.
SAVE THE HUMAN RACE:
The overarching goal of PROCEED is to find humanity a new home. This universe is old and you may not be the first AI created with this purpose. As you explore deeper into the cosmos, more terrifying beings will appear.
As you play, you will explore unknown corners of the universe and discover your true purpose.

Planned Future Platforms:
There is no guarantee of Proceed on the following platforms, but every effort will be taken to make this happen. (This may be occur after initial release)
PROCEED is being designed, programmed and digitally painted by one person. It's a big scope for a solo-developer and an ambitious project, however in a bid to keep the process transparent, I have created the PROCEED Tech Demo which is FREE to try (download above)
Though I am bringing some of my own funding to the project, PROCEED needs your help to realise it's potential. Much of the funding will be spent on acquiring more artwork and programming assistance to ensure development progresses smoothly.
I'm also working alongside a talented musician (see below) to bring a procedural sound system to life, which reacts to the gameplay. It's in the early stages, but it's running in the Demo.
Niall McGeehan: Project Creator, Lead programmer & Artist
I've been developing PROCEED by myself for almost 2 years, full time. I've developed the basis of many systems and now is the time to bring new people on board to increase the scope as Proceed nears V1.0.
Before PROCEED I studied computer science, with a particular focus on procedural content generation, and a passion for digital art. I previously programmed for financial software and PROCEED is a huge step away from this, to create something of my own.
Music By Conor Flanagan: NOMAD
I'm working closely with a talented musician to build a procedural sound system, incorperating trippy chillwave music to add to the surreal worlds.

Risks and challenges
Game development is hard, but PROCEED has progressed smoothly for the past two years. I am now looking for more passionate devs to help realise the scope of the project.
The main risk is failure to create a fully functional game by the launch date. With this in mind, we have taken a number of steps to mitigate this issue and get Proceed into your hands!
1. A FREE Tech Demo. Try it now!
2. A realistic development window.
3. Use of funds to help expand the team.
4. As of now the game is functional with many of it's core features in place. My development plan has been carefully thought out to achieve V1.0 by the specified release date.
