WE MADE IT!! We are truly overwhelmed by the support and generosity that we have received. It means a great deal to us that other people believe in this project as much as we do. The fact that we have reached our goal is amazing but OUR DREAMS DON'T END THERE!! We have BIG PLANS for some exciting stretch goals as the project continues to grow!! Help us make it the best it can be.
Not only do we want to make a great book, we really want to make this a fun and valuable educational tool. Kids will be able to colour each of the illustrations and complete activities such as printing practice etc. as they work through the alphabet. These activity sheets will be available as a printable PDF document!!
We really wanted to print this book in hardcover (because little humans can be rough on things…) but we had to consider a realistic budget. If we reach this stretch goal we will be able to offer a hardcover edition AND all backers will have their copies of the book "UPGRADED" to the hardcover edition.
My name is Andrea Bull and I am excited to share this very special project I have created in an effort to promote autism awareness. I have been working with my autistic younger brother Robert Bull to produce an ABC children’s book that showcases the vibrant talent and potential of autistic individuals. ‘Animal Appetites’ uses alliteration and playful imagery to walk through an alphabet of funny animals eating strange things in even stranger places.
Robert, who was diagnosed with autism at age 4, independently produced all of the illustrations for the book. He took to drawing at an early age as a way of expressing himself creatively and has developed a unique way of bringing his imagination to life through his art. For this project I wrote the text for each letter of the alphabet and he produced the illustrations for each scenario according to his own interpretation.
We hope we have created a piece of work that all children and families will enjoy and that demonstrates that autistic individuals are not defined by their autism. They are unique, talented, and creative people with great potential. We want this book to act as an example of what can be achieved with the right support systems, regardless of the challenges someone may face.
Animal Appetites is almost done! We plan to make it available as both a full colour 9"x7" softcover book as well as an eBook. The layout will be designed by our amazing designer Elisa Gutierrez. If our fundraising goals are met by 100% 'Animal Appetites' should be available online and in stores by October of 2015 in celebration of Canada's Autism Awareness Month.
Once the book is published a portion of the sale of each book will be donated to the Canucks Autism Network, an organization that provides a variety of incredible programs for individuals and families living with autism and is instrumental in raising autism awareness.
The funds raised through this campaign will be used to cover the initial print, design, self-publishing and distribution costs.

Risks and challenges
This book is nearly complete. We have identified a self-publisher that will enable us to achieve our publishing and distribution goals. We have also budgeted very carefully to ensure that we will meet our publishing needs and be able to fulfill all of our promised rewards. Every project has potential obstacles and we have planned accordingly. If any major setbacks do arise, you will be the first to know and we will work hard to remedy them as quickly as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
