About this project
Greetings, my dear Kickstarter potential donors! My name is Lara, and I am a jewelry designer based out of Somerville, Massachusetts. I started selling my creations at age 13, and would set up tables and displays at local craft shows, independent fairs and festivals. Now, I sell my own handmade gemstone jewelry on the cobblestone sidewalks of Newbury Street, Boston's high-end shopping district.
As my business continued to grow, I began to connect with other emerging designers and incorporated their collections into my displays. After a time, I realized I would need more space - and a different venue - in which to display not only jewelry items, but also artwork, accessories, and housewares.
I thought, why not a truck? There are ice cream trucks, cheesesteak trucks, and dumpling trucks. Why not clear out a truck, design the space so that people could step inside, and create a mobile boutique?
I'd be able to sell all sorts of art (jewelry, furniture, chandeliers!) and not be inhibited by what can fit into my teeny car. No more "being rained out" - I'd be able to sell from my truck on rainy Spring days and throughout the winter months! I could also hop from town to town, bringing my designs to different people rather than waiting for them to come to me. I could follow festivals and art fairs in the New England area in the summertime, then during the winter, weave my way down South. Who else can take their store on a cross-country tour?
So... I bought a truck - A 30 year old step van (think UPS truck) that I plan to convert into an innovative mobile boutique representing emerging artists, eco-friendly designs, and fairly traded products.
Here is where I need your help. I am asking for funding to support the green renovation of the truck. This renovation is to include new flooring, LED lighting, and solar panels (great to be off the grid!), as well as a complete exterior overhaul. By reaching my $5000 goal I can completely renovate the interior, but if you help me reach $10,000, I can do the exterior too (solar panels are expensive)!
What do you get in return for helping me out? Why, some great swag of course! Here are some images of the thank-yous I am offering in gratitude for donations:
$250+ donators get VIP treatment. Read the rewards descriptions for details.
While the project is underway, feel free to check out my handmade jewelry designs on etsy at www.rockedjewelry.etsy.com, or come visit me at the intersection of Newbury and Dartmouth St. in Boston! My show schedule is under shop announcements on my etsy page.
Thank you so very much for your generosity!
