Tickle is a live-action psychological and supernatural horror about the isolation, trauma and intense vulnerability of domestic abuse.
Lilly, our exhausted and desperate protagonist, struggles through a sleepless night of being tormented by a menacing and salacious creature.
Skeptical of her own sanity and separated from the outside world, she must fight the ever creeping grasp from the sinister creature if she wants to make it to the morning.
Tickle presents a painfully raw and spine-tingling scary portrait of a troubled woman trying to readjust to life after an abusive relationship. It’s a horror that delves into the exploitation and objectification of women. An otherworldly exploration into being a forced object of desire for an aggressively persistent, hyper-masculine monster.
The film merges this psychological trauma with one of the most horrifying entities of mythological legend, an Incubus. A demon in male form who lies upon sleeping women in order to engage in sexual activity with them.
Tickle is part psychological thriller in the style of 'Rosemary's Baby' mixed with a tense supernatural phenomenon in the style of 'It Follows' and 'The Babadook.' We want to tell a traumatic tale with strong horror elements rather than just tell a horror story.
It’s a film buried in paranoia and panic with strong allusions to PTSD from domestic abuse. Just as 'The Babadook' is a terrifying take on mourning a loved one, and 'It Follows' is a spectacularly scary film about spreading STD’s, Tickle is a supernatural exploration into abusive relationships and the feeling of absolute helplessness and suffering.
In the film industry it's no secret that there is a huge disparity between men and women working behind the camera. Considering Tickles’ story and themes it’s incredibly important to us that this film isn't just another man driven production. And so we're making the film with a majority women led crew. We've already put together a class team of incredibly talented women to work on the film with us and we're still searching for a few more roles.
The script's ready. Storyboards are waiting to be shot. The creature's set. Prosthetics are developed and the location’s secured.
We’re coming to Kickstarter for your help. We’ve already put hundreds of hours and a ton of money into developing this film but we need to hire a hell of a lot of equipment, buy and make lots of props, feed dozens of people - and as much as it’s unheard of in the short film world, we’d quite like to pay our actress for her talent and time.
We've got a bunch of exciting rewards to choose from. From signed posters and BluRays, to naming a character, to featuring a photo of your choosing in a chilling scene, to being an executive producer, to presenting the entire film!
Executive producers, 'Presented By', and Greedy Devil rewards will feature your name on the Tickle poster, as well as the films credits, and IMDB.
Have a look on the right to see if anything tickles your fancy.
Thanks for your time and we hope you join our team!
Risks and challenges
Given that Tickle is an unconventional exploration into the very sensitive subject of abuse in relationships and the PTSD that can be triggered in their wake, the main challenges we face are with tone and execution. We’re confident we can pull this off in a respectable, realistic and terrifying way but we need the financing that unlocks the resources and time to achieve this.
Coming off the back of releasing our second highly acclaimed short film, Holy F__k, means that Tickle will have our undivided attention throughout the course of production. Spring is the perfect time of year to shoot as we utilise the most amount of natural darkness. So we will be shooting almost immediately after the campaign ends. That is a huge risk given that Kickstarter is all or nothing.
We will face the challenge of distribution - getting Tickle seen by as many people as possible (and hopefully a few awards along the way). Through making our previous films we have managed to make some good connections in the film festival world that will help us achieve this.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
