We made it! A huge thank you to the backers who made this possible! The new goal is to now reach $12,000. With this additional funding, we will literally expand the book making it 40 pages! That's 8 extra pages of poetry, art, and fun! You can help us make it happen!
Spinach Dip Pancakes is a book of poetry for children (recommended for ages six and up) and the grown-ups who love them. It’s a collection of whimsical wordplay, poetry, art, and songs.
This book has been in progress for many years, and I'm really excited that it's now so close to being done. I've had the pleasure of getting to know and work with so many talented artists over these years that I wanted this book to be a very collaborative project. For me that's the most fun and satisfying way of creating.
It's my intention that, as readers hold this book in their hands, they make connections from one page to another and also to themselves and those around them. I want them to be inspired with new ideas to take their imaginations further! I hope they find more in the book each time they come back to it.
If you’re familiar with my previous work, this book will fit right in with the others, yet have a very new and unique feel. The printed book will be 8.5" x 11" with 32 full color pages.
Instead of me writing about it, here's a medley of the music for you to take a listen to...
I'll be performing these poems and songs through live puppetry. My passion is to be at schools, libraries, and festivals - inspiring kids to be creative! I discuss with them the creative process, that it is a lot of work, but that it's worth it! And that their ideas are valuable!
Why would we support this?
Here's what the Daily Times, in Ottawa, IL said about my first book: “Kammeraad has combined his many talents to give us more than a book of poetry—it's a hands-on lesson in creativity. Without a doubt, The Tomato Collection is about the joy of creating, whether it's writing, drawing, making music or building robot creatures out of odds and ends.”
I'm working hard to do that again! To create a brand new, exciting resource for teachers and parents to motivate and inspire creative thinking in their students and children. I also want this new book and CD to be something kids will love to come back to again and again!
Who are some of the people collaborating on this book and music?
There are many fantastic people working on this in so many different ways! Danny and Kim Adlerman, Corey Van Duinen, Justin Haveman, Ryan Hipp, Steve Kammeraad (dad), Stephanie, Carlos, and Maria Kammeraad (wife and kiddos), Laurie Keller, Wicker Basket, Arts & Scraps, Lou Musa, Scott Mack, Alynn Guerra, James Dague (ScribbleMonster), Al McAvoy, Joel Tanis, Ruth McNally Barshaw, Mark Rehl, Embellish Handbell Ensemble, Karen Dunnam, Carmen Maret, Norah Brenner, Joel Ferguson, Stacy Oldenberg, Andrew Jacoby, Lisa Zylstra-Jacoby, Spencer Blickley, Brad Hartness, Andrés Salguero, Matthew Sligh West, Meaghan Crabtree, Avalon Cutts-Jones, Lyssa Daniels, Graham Lince, Conrad Shock, Roger Day, Pam Groom, Michael Schaeffer, Michele Venegas, Carolyn Koebel, Joe Emory, Chaz Russel, Oleg Kruglyakov, Les Clay, Chris Fox, Carolyn Stich, Andy Holtgreive, and Jason Hammond. What an incredible group of artists and musicians I have the pleasure to collaborate with!
What is the current schedule for this project?
The current plan is to finish the book and CD by November 1, 2015. We’ll then send the files to the printer and the master CD to the manufacturer. Books and CDs should be available in December, 2015.
Why do you need help? How is the money going to be spent?
We will be using the money to print books and to manufacture CDs.
To print these books, we are working with Color House Graphics, located 10 miles from where I live in Grand Rapids, MI. To manufacture the CDs, we are still exploring the options.
Note: We are currently paying all of the expenses that go into creating the content of the book and CD. This KickStarter is specifically to get the book and CD in print so it can get into the hands of kids, families, and classrooms. If we exceed our goal, we can then explore some options for adding more pages to the book, “specialty printing” features (spot varnish on the cover, etc.) and for publicity/marketing which would greatly benefit the project.
Will we know how things are going with the project as you continue to create it?
Yes! I plan to regularly send KickStarter updates, photos, and videos showing the progress of the project. You're now a part of this, and I want you to see "behind-the-scenes" and "sneak peeks" since you are part of making it all happen!
Thank you for taking the time to check out this project. I truly appreciate your support. Everything I do as an artist is designed to inspire active imaginations through poetry, puppetry, music, and movement. This project is the next step of the journey.

Risks and challenges
We want the project to be the best it can be and plan to do everything we can to make it great. In that process, we may end up needing more time. We'll be sure to keep everyone updated as the project unfolds. We WILL complete the book and CD though; there's no doubt about that!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
